4. I can see where people are comming from
The idea of getting flashed by Janet doesn't bother me personally, but I can definitely see where someone who is watching the game with their kids with the expectation of standard of behavior A would be really pissed off when they ended up getting standard of behavior B. I don't have any problem with "racy" content on TV, but you've got to give fair warning to those that do. To the extent that CBS gave people something substantially different from what they expected, they deserve a blizzard of messages from their customers.

BTW, why do you think it is only right wingers that care about what is on TV? Check out the thread on "Sin Taxes" so get a reality check on how willing our brothers are to regulate behavior.

5. I agree with you
I agree with you, but why aren't these people also complaining about commercials talking about 36 hour erections and guys getting attacked in the crotch by dogs? I mean Janet's boob was like the last thing I'd be offended by if I had kids. It's kinda hypocritical to me and just shows how bad a case of erotophobia this puritanical joke of a country has.

Kudos for pointing out how nuts our side can get on this issue too. When I see liberals on tv agreeing with Brent "Bozo" Bozell about something it makes my head spin...

--Chovexani thinks Michael Powell is the real boob

8. You're right
There is a lot to be offended by in the halftime show. But I think that Janet's boobflash is just a very obvious flashpoint. I think people are somewhat immune to dirty dancing by now. But nudity on the networks is still just not done.

In other words, that is a clean line of demarcation.

6. How about this for FAIR WARNING
The first song Nelly sang was "It's gettin hot in here so take off all your clothes." The female dancers around did almost just that when they ripped off the tops of their shirts leaving little and then ripped of the bottom of the shorts leaving little. They danced throughout the song, bumping and grinding next to him and each other. He spent half the song with a hand on his crotch.

Justin's song: "Gonna get you naked by the end of the song" and "I want to rock you body." He and Janet danced around on stage explicitally throughout the singing.

Throughout the entire show, dancers did all but simulate sex, were half clad (at best), and sang sexual explicit songs. If you made through that 15 minute warning, you might have been looking at the right spot at the right time to see a bare breast for 1 second.

I am sure the "kids" who saw this also saw and heard the performance that led up to it. They may well own the cd's these songs are on. Why are they all ok but a bare breast for 1 second is somehow damaging?

9. The customer is king
I hear where you're coming from, but in the end the facts remain:

1) CBS is a for profit company that makes a lot of money on the Superbowl. If their customers are pissed because the didn't deliver the production values that they expect, then it is perfectly reasonable for their customers to call them on it.

2) CBS stations enjoy government protected monopolies on the use of certain rf bands for commercial gain. The standards to which they are expected to adhere are well known to the producers at CBS. It is perfectly reasonable for the FCC, as well as the public it represents, to sanction CBS for not living up to the terms of an agreement that it is a willing party to. Regardless of the consensus at DU, a deal is a deal and CBS didn't live up to it's end.

BTW, the FCC has gotten much more strict on enforcement actions all over the bands. No reason for CBS to be left out.

10. I might contact CBS myself
I was upset that instead of airing the MoveOn ad, they chose instead to air ads on how to get your dick up, then played a half-time show with a singer who had his hand on his crotch the whole time, with background dancers in garters. Come on! The whole damn thing was like one long episode of The Man Show (which I hate, BTW).

11. They are taking it too far
Y'all know me as someone who got really upset about all this, but I honestly think a "sorry" and a promise that it will never happen again would be enough..

Man.. calling for investigations and stuff... lol
