Chevy Chase Rehired As An "SNL" Regular - At Scale
Before the writer's strike, Chevy Chase's return to "Saturday Night Live" segment "Weekend Update" was supposed to be a recurring role.

"I met with Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers and they hired me," Chase told me on Tuesday. "I told them I'd love to come in and do occasional pieces about politics. They're paying me scale, which is more than I was making when I did the show originally," he laughed.

Chase says his first appearance got mucked up by two things. "The writing wasn't so good." Also, he was thrown by the audience giving him a standing ovation. "I didn't want to overshadow the new kids," he says. "I was shocked."

1. Said by the guy who didn't have his own talk show for more than 5 episodes...
:hide:

The writing on SNL has been fairly bad since, oh, 1995. Chase merely states the obvious, and it's probably out of nostalgia his reception was so warm.

Indeed, without the writing to base anything on, the actors wouldn't know where to go anyway. (Proof that writers are more valuable than what they are given for...)

3. CW, you and I read the HuffingtonPost pretty
regularly, huh? I saw this story and thought "I'll wait and see if CatWoman has posted it yet..." ;-)

Did you see the parody of financial strategy, performed by two Brits? In the business section, was very funny: http://www.alleyinsider.com/2007/11/how-citi-merrill-hsbc-morgan-et-al-vaporized-billions.html Typical dry British humor.

4. I thought he was banned ...
<snip>

Chevy Chase was banned from hosting the show again after the February 15, 1997 episode due to his verbal abuse of the cast and crew during the week. Chase became notorious for his treatment of certain cast members when hosting past episodes, particularly his remarks to openly gay cast member Terry Sweeney.

Note: In 1985, Chase suggested that a perfect skit for Sweeney would be one in which he plays an AIDS victim who gets weighed every week. Chase's abusive behavior during the 1985 episode and other episodes are detailed in the Live From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live book.

Further Note: Although Chase was banned from hosting the show in 1997, he appeared on the 25th anniversary special in 1999, was interviewed for the 2005 special Live From New York: The First Five Years of Saturday Night Live, and cameoed in two episodes (one hosted by Bill Murray in 1999 and another hosted by Seann William Scott in 2001). Chase was recently on SNL's Weekend Update (2007 Season).

5. no one's banned when ratings suck
and frankly, comedians tend not to be very nice people, and if they don't have the thick skin to take their jokes, well, they should probably consider a new career.

7. When I read that story, I was pissed.
And I realized then and there that Chevy Chase is a loathsome piece of shit.

11. "Scale" = minimum wage for actors
It's the minimum amount actors can be paid per day.
