If so what program do you use?

2. Yep. Taxcut.
I was on a pre-order list to get Turbo Tax automatically mailed to me a few years ago. Got to be mid February, and they still hadn't got their proverbial turds in a cohesive group. I fugured if they aren't smart enough to manage a simple pre-order database, they shouldn't be sending me tax software, either.

And, BTW, Taxcut is typically cheaper, too.

3. Hell no!
Never, never, never, will I buy software to do my taxes. Until the IRS prohibits me from doing so, I will continue to hand-jam my tax returns. Stubby pencils are (almost) free.

5. Taxes
If you don't have a very complicated return, I have devised a simple excel spreadsheet to handle the calculations for both the fed and state forms. Each year I change the standard deduction amount and plug in the income, interest, withholding, mortgage interest, taxes and deductions, and excel does the calculation. I look up the tax from the tables and fill in the form. This takes 15 minutes and keeps my math straight. Don't see any need to buy software as long as you know your way around excel.

Does that count?

8. I Wouldn't
I believe ShrubCo is targeting all e-filers this year for a "cursory" IRS audit.

10. Is that even possible? Do you know how many hundreds of thousands e-file?
That's a LOT of audits, even if they're just "cursory".

11. e-filing saves the IRS money
I can't see any motivation for Shrub to target e-filers.

12. Why should it matter?
If you don't cheat on your taxes, why worry if you get a "cursory" audit?

13. You have a link for that claim?
I've used TaxCut and TurboTax. I prefer TaxCut. I file electronically and have the money deposited directly to my bank account. I usually cut it really close though, getting a little back or owing a little. That's what the experts say is the proper way to do it.

Haven't done them yet. Last year I got an extension and I had a refund coming. :silly:

9. TurboTax
this year. Used TaxCut last year. Works beautifully. Don't know how I'll come out, since I literally had no income last year.

14. No, I use my mom...
She's a professional tax preparer with a firm of CPAs, and I figure let the pros handle it. Governmental forms give me a rare and wonderful form of dyslexia -- I'm utterly unable to read them and extract any meaningful information from them (and Canadian gov't forms are *much* more user-friendly than US gov't forms...). *She* on the other hand, uses software. What kind, I have no idea.

My mom is also bilingual when it comes to tax -- she speaks T-4s and W-2s! :)

15. I use a pen and a calculator.
Man, I need to get with the times. I do everything else online, but I'm still scared to file my taxes that way.
