I've got a question for all of you folks...
I'm cleaning out my closet here in my study...

It's a big one, and full of stuff...

I just found a HUGE bag full of plastic bags...

Some are big...

Some have drawstrings...

All are sturdy and clean...

I don't need them...

Any ideas on who could use them?

Or how to get them into those people's hands?

1. Use them as garbage bags in the kitchen.
Till you've used them all up. We never buy trash bags for that reason.

2. Craigslist or Freecycle might put them in the right hands.
All I can think of off the top of my head are homeless shelters and battered women's shelters.

I hope you find a good use for them, Peggy!

Ah, now there's a good thought too!

I'll ask KW how to do that...

She's the Craigslist champ around here!

Thanks!

15. Freecycle!? :headbang:
I signed up for the one here in Arlington but the emails got to be too much to look at, but I'm still on the list. I think it's a great idea :headbang: I kinda forgot about it lately though.

3. Call a dog-walking or pet-sitting service.
Plastic bags come in handy for picking up after Rover on walks.

9. My choir director's sister runs a pet-sitting service.
She gives her all the little plastic wrappers the newspapers come in. I use any plastic bags for dog clean-up. I'll bet your neighbor could use 'em.

10. I'm sure she could...
Our city will give tickets to people who don't pick up after their animals...

She always has a bag with her...

6. If they're from a California grocery store or pharmacy,
I think you can return them to the grocery store or pharmacy for recycling, Peggy. Otherwise, I'd "repurpose" them as trash bags. :hi:

Repurpose is looking like the way to go!

Thanks!

12. Have an elementary school in your area?
The teachers can always use them - carry all for the kids, craft projects, etc.

24. Yes! Great suggestion!
I have to beg students to bring in those cheap plastic grocery bags for taking home their projects. They are also great for party days, to take home their treats. I'll bet the elementary art teacher or primary grade teachers would snap these up!

30. Thanks. I aided at an elementary school, lower grades
and those bags were a God send. Some of things we did with them.

1. As you say, treats and any small this and that to take home

2. At the end of the year, all their paper projects that had piled up

3. Stored all the odds and ends, like crayons, pens, scissors, craft paper, all sorted by color, and hung on hooks around the walls

4. The extra clothes they bring in

5. Their boots, kept them together and didn't get the floor wet and dirty

29. Hi Peggy, I was going to suggest same - small charity thrift shops
Edited on Sat Nov-24-07 06:48 PM by Gormy Cuss
The small local thrift shops around me all use recycled bags. The hospice Center, cancer society, and pet rescue thrifts, for example. I'm not sure about the big guys like Goodwill or Salvation Army.

25. Another suggestion... the library!
If they have an annual book sale, they can use the bags for purchases. Our local YWCA also holds a huge book sale and they appreciate contibutions of bags.
