2. That is such a commonly used chord progression.

It's used in "Rock In The USA" by John Mellencamp also. It's also used in numerous other rock songs throughout the ages, sometimes maybe in different keys, but it's still the same chord progression. It's the typical V - I - IV - I chord progression. I can guarantee someone who knows a lot of old rock and roll songs can name one right off the top of their heads. Although, I love their music, I don't see the band's beef here.
