So, I finally got to see "Chocolat" last night and...

understand why Mitterand invited Juliette Binoche to be his mistress.

(She wisely said no, as she has wisely refused those far too many Hollywood promises.)

Anyway, checking out chickflicks on the Women's channel isn't the worst way to spend an evening when three incredibly talented women, a brilliant director, and the ever enchanting but here underused Johhny Depp are taking a hackneyed and predictable plot, plastic characters, and far too overworked themes and turning them into something magical.

1. I love the movie. I know it's kitchy, but I love it

mostly because Binoche, Judi Dench and Lena Olin are so fantastic. But Alfred Molina is wonderful, too, as the uber-repressed Count, and Depp is great to watch, too.

The book is very different, though - no typical happy Hollywood ending. Vianne and Roux aren't the two who end up together...

I think one of the reasons why is to see all that awesome chocolate:D My mouth is drooling and I start to dig through the pantry for some.
