Have you felt like you have no purpose in life besides what you can do 'FOR' people?
I'm beginning to notice a trend in my life. I'm not wanted unless I can do something for somebody.

No one wants to just enjoy my company anymore. Any phone call I get from my friends or family starts with "Hey dude, my wireless router won't connect.." or "Hey man, I got a question about my computer..." - things like that...

I don't even feel like I'm wanted in my own marriage outside of paying the bills, and playing a role in some Norman Rockwell fantasy...

I do my best to be super-friendly and helpful to anyone around... and it just doesn't get me anywhere.. except obligated to do things, and no real friends.

Thanks for listening. I'm beginning to wonder why I'm here at all.

1. I know exactly what you mean...
being a wife, a mom, and a teacher.... when did I cease to be just "me"?

I guess everyone feels that way sometimes. Hope a little  helps.

2. I know what you mean.
I get the same thing from people. They always some sort of technical help. I pretty much tell them I don't have time to work for free. They usually get the point.

But I know that doesn't help with the feelings of being 'needed' rather than 'wanted'. If I were you, I'd start being a bit more self-centered. Start getting what YOU want out of life and fuck the rest of em. The cream rises to the top and you'll see who's a real friend pretty quickly.

3. How do you get a wireless router to work?
Mine has been sitting around for weeks but I can't get it to go.

4. It was like that for me for a while.
Not so much anymore, but it still happens from time to time.

6. make sure you do things for yourself... and ask people to do things with you...
I prefer friendships now that are two- way, instead of one-way. Much more satisfying.

It seems people have so little time these days that very few of us hang out just to share each other's company. We've all become very functional.

maybe you should print out some flyers advertising trading your computer services
for whatever service or thing you might need. And send these flyers to family and friends. I have friends who trade out massages (who are professional masseuses) and stuff like that. You could send these out and let people know you want something in return.
