Mother of Cork actor Rhys-Meyers dies

The mother of Hollywood star Jonathan Rhys Meyers has died after a short illness.

Geraldine "Geri" Meyers-O'Keeffe (50), died at the Mercy University Hospital in Cork yesterday morning.

Mrs Meyers-O'Keeffe, formerly a charity worker, is expected to be buried near her home in Glanmire, Co Cork, on Friday. She is survived by Jonathan, and three other sons, Jamie, Alan and Paul.

The actor (30) was arrested in Dublin airport under the Public Order Act on Sunday.

He was due to fly back to London after his appearance on RTÉ's Tubridy Tonight show on Saturday night.

Rhys-Meyers was charged with being drunk and disorderly and with a breach of the peace after he was refused permission to board a British Midland aircraft.

He was taken to Whitehall Garda station and held for a short time before being released on bail. He is to appear in Dublin District Court next month.

Rhys-Meyers, who is starring as Henry VIII in The Tudors , was in Dublin to promote his new movie August Rush , which opens on Friday.
