Meet your daemon (Golden Compass)
I'm a lion. Who'da thunk it? I always thought I was something small, furry and shy - like a lemur.

I have friends with rodents for pets. I prefer rats. They're awesome little guys and very smart.

If you haven't read the books, they are awesome!! I finished all three of them in one week.

I can't wait to see the movie! :bounce:

8. I finished them in a week as well
Of course, I'd read them before: someone recommended them as "fantasy for thinking agnostics", which is an irresistible description.

I can't wait to see the armored bears! And the wheeled critters (though those are in the last book). I also wonder if "Mrs. Coulter" was inspired by her real-life namesake, though Mrs. Coulter is supposed to be beautiful and charming, which Annthrax never was.

11. I'm with you on the armored bears!
I really hope I'm not disappointed. That would suck!!

I thought the same about the Mrs. Coulter connection as did my husband when he read it. I think the aptitude of evil of Mrs. Coulter is what makes the name go so well.

29. Take the first 2 books.
The story tends to keep moving so you get through them pretty fast. I mean if you're going to be in the airport and on a plane, it's a great way to pass the time.

Have a safe trip. :hi:

Ah well. I'll probably be too medicated to read much of the time. :(

I will definitely try to have a very safe trip. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving too.

24. I don't know what the site says about racoons.
I'm just going by experience. There were a lot of the little beasts around where I grew up. They're beautiful, and might be smarter than dogs. But they could definitely be vicious.

so as not to offend church-folk, but I also read that the author said the point of the book was more anti-authoritarian/anti-fascist than anti-religion.

However, the book was one of the most intense critiques of some aspects of religion that I have ever seen in a children's book.

I've only read it out loud to my kid once, though, so I'd probably need to reread to get a better feel. My husband has loved the books for years, and has read it many more times than I have.
