6. LOL
Finally, a nurse and two technicians attempted to place a Foley catheter in her bladder. After spreading apart one tree-trunk leg at a time, they found a handful of industrial paper towels, apparently being used as a sanitary napkin. But they also found an even larger surprise in her crotch -- a TV remote control.

15. Every decade had the "antithesis" beauty
Katharine Hepburn was a "manishly" thin woman in an era of voluptuous women..She was the "Oddity" in the 30's & 40's

Audrey Hepburn was the "thin waifishly helpless" woman in the era of Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Jane Russell, Doris Day,and scads of "normal sized" actresses of the 50's & early 60's

Twiggy changed everything for the masses.. Once she came along and was the one everyone wanted to be like, girls everywhere started dieting and trying to look super thin.. mini skirts and bikinis DO look better on stick-thin figures....and the rest is history

21. Katharine Hepburn wasn't an oddity in the '30's and 40's........
she looked like most of the other women in films of the time. This voluptuousness that everyone seems to think is 'normal' came into vogue in the 50's, and went away in the '60's.

Audrey Hepburn isn't an antithesis at all, she was simply breathtakingly beautiful.

23. True.. she was a beauty, but you have to admit she was not the norm
Most of the owmen in Katharine's day were more curvy.. But then the clothing she wore, may have just covered her curves :)

I'd post a photo of myself, but it's not up to me to decide if I'm sexy. (Mrs. V. says I am <she said, blushing & thrilled>....)

That gives me an idea. Maybe I should go to Glamour Shots! I wonder if they'll shoot me in clothing reminiscent of Marlene Dietrich, though. I don't do Femme very well.

Hmmmmmmmm!

Edited because I am an idiot. Not Garbo! Dietrich!

I never really understood her appeal as an actress or a great beauty. She just seemed so cold and angular. Maybe that was in vogue back then or something.

18. Another thing to consider about the "oldies"...... no plastic
The movie stars of the past, did what they did with "natural" beauty.. I am sure somoe exercised, but the whole diet/plastic surgery/lipo etc was NOT available to them..

If they were voluptuous, it was not FAKE..

28. It's like this
"Curvy Healthy women are Sexier" says to me that you are not healthy or sexy if you are lacking curves, which is the case with many small women like myself. I am completely lacking in hips. Some of us are born little and thin, and I'm sorry if that's not sexy to people around here.

27. I'm not sure what this current spate of threads
in the Lounge is lately about female body types. Who's to say what's ideal and what's best? Some women are naturally thin, some are athletic, some are voluptuous. And you will find men who will like each of these body types.

What difference does it make as long as your are healthy and happy with yourself?!?!

I went hiking Sunday. You know what? I actually loved and celebrated the body that I have at the moment. My legs functioned and were strong enough to propel me forward. My heart and lungs amazingly pumped blood and oxygen through my body to allow me to climb to the next hill.

I was grateful that I could see the beauty around me and smell the crisp lake air as I listened to classical music through my headphones.

Our bodies are unique and amazing things. Why not just celebrate the one that you're in?

30. this really doesn't help
up until very recently I was really thin and I constantly heard how gross skinny women were and how no men found them attractive and that thin women weren't "womanly" what a crock - how is making thinner women depressed and obsessed with their bodies going to make bigger women feel better? I used to really pissed off at the way people could say how awful it was that larger people get lokoed down upon but then in the same breath talk about how revolting thin women looked.

Also lets compare apples with apples - clearly Lara Flynn Boyle has a problem - this is demonstrably not a healthy weight for her size and the fact that she has rapidly shrunk over a few years attests to that, but there are thin and even really skinny women who would love to have some boobs and booty but it's not going to happen much as some women would love to have a flat stomach but it's not going to happen.

Sad to see so many naturally thin women in Hollywood get picked on too much, just because of the enviornment that is caused by some.

43. curvy and natural vs toothpicks
I'll take a curvy and/or a natural--aka "normal"--woman over some walking toothpick. For example, japanese women aren't too buxom (not all of course), but they won't blow away in the wind if you wave at them.
