Ten bucks says we're having the biggest crowd for Thanksgiving:
31 adults, 11 kids. A new record, even though we've come close before.

1. Damn, you got us beat.
I think we're gonna have something under 20 total this year. Woulda been more, but everybody took what vacation they could to see my grandpa when he was sick, so now that he's getting better they can't take any more time off to come visit. :P

come on over.

aunts and uncles for making all the cousins in the first place.

5. Holy Mary Mother of God.
(Aw c'mon--- the Irish side won't think of that as hyperbole.)

We're having 5 adults and it's the biggest crowd since we move to Kollyfornia. We have a standing invitation to a big Irish-American family gathering but we like cooking too much to join that crowd.

Happy Holidays, you ole liberal you.

How many birds are you cooking? Did you actually have the seating for them or did you have to rent some extra?

10. 2 turkeys, a ham and a half, LOTS of potatoes...people are bringing most of the
side dishes, pies, etc...and yes, there are places for everyone to sit, because we bring up some old tables & chairs from the basement, but there will still be some sofa-sitters.

We're going all out this year, because it may be our last; the only one of my cousins who has a house as large as ours will be doing it next year, and we're still looking at the move to New Hampshire, so we may not be here (and certainly with a house nowhere as big as this one) in 2009.

(And one of the turkeys will be cooked on the rotisserie of the outdoor gas grill, and yes, that's a DAMN good bird right there.)

13. My dad has taken to cooking the bird on his charcoal grill.
It is a tasty bird but the stuffing is better if it is cooked inside the bird in the oven. You guys enjoy the day, sounds great!

15. My dear Redstone!
I'm not sure how many will be attending our Thanksgiving dinner, since we've been invited to our older daughter's boyfriend's parents' house!

There will be at least eight...and perhaps more!

Nowhere near as many as your get-together!

Have a ball!

Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 12:59 AM by gwbsamoron
We just trimmed by two. The biggest internet crook of all time (convicted) and his (adult) son were coming, but I've gotten word they've canceled. I've never met him - he's related through a couple of former marriages. He just got out of the slammer after 7 years. I'm kind of glad he's not showing up...word has it that he has not reformed, and is already starting to plan his next theft of $37 million.

25. Two 12-pounders (one in the oven and one on the rotisserie), a ham and a half,
and all the other attendant stuff like stuffing.

We've got it down to a system after doing it for five of the last seven years. Even though this crowd is a record, we usually come close to these numbers.

Enjoy your dinner!

My Dh's parents had 16 grandchildren to 12 adults. Gosh those were the days, all the little ones running here and there. No one has a big enough house now that there are great-grandchildren.

ALMOST this size before, so it'll be fine.

The only disappointment is that quite a few people won't be staying overnight, for the Legendary Leftovers on Friday.

This Thanksgiving is a tiny one by our usual standards - only a dozen.

However the bigger holidays have been as many as 46 one year. I think we were at maximum capacity that christmas.

Have a happy Thanksgiving. With all that love around, you can't miss.

Edited on Fri Nov-23-07 07:05 PM by Ava
my mom comes from a family with 7 kids so all of them and their spouses and kids, my grandparents, my great grandparents, my mom's cousins that are really close with our family and their spouses and kids, my great uncle and his son and his wife and kids, and the many other family members that we have come by.

this year was much smaller than normal because my uncles are stationed far from home and my aunt in chicago couldn't come down this year. still we had 18 adults and 10 kids.
