Stay classy, Jet Fans
I don't know what's more sickening - the mouthbreathing knuckledragging animals who lead this halftime "show" or the security force and Jets organization that lets it continue because of "free speech laws"??? :wtf:

Since when did sexual harassment (and assault) come under the 1st Amendment?

"At Jets Game, a Halftime Ritual of Harassment"

3. I hate Jets fans....
When I was 18, I went to a wildcard game and was pulling for the other team - one of the players on the other team was a client of my dad and had gotten us tickets.

I was assaulted by two men as I was leaving. My dad was walking ahead of me and did not hear nor see what happened. I was grabbed by the hood of the sweatshirt and they started shoving me around. Another man stepped in to help and I managed to get away from them and take off towards the exit.

Ever since that day, I detest Jets fans...

I don't know what they felt they were going to accomplish by tormenting an 18 y/o girl - I was a skinny, nerdy thing. It wasn't like I was in a shouting match with them or anything.

F***ing pigs - and my brother is a Jets fan too - I don't really like him that much anyway :P

It's inexcusable. No one should have to do endure anything other than some good-natured ribbing.

We're not all like that, I promise. My family has season tickets and we were really hoping for the stadium in Manhattan because it would have put an end to the all day binge drinking that is otherwise known as NFL tailgating.

4. Hell, perhaps the Eagles Court needs to move to New Jersey
at least our drunken assholes were just beating up each other - not sexual harassment.

Free Speech? That's bullshit - it's no different then if I screamed fire in the middle of the stadium. There are laws to prevent sexual harassment. What if those men on the ramp were screaming racist comments - would security just sit there and do nothing screaming "free speech".

If I'm correct (and a legal expert can correct me). This is not a public place. This is a venue where if you purchase a ticket you abide by the rules of the venue or risk expulsion. The venue owners just need to enforce it and kick these pigs out of there.

10. well, they DO have to watch the Jets play
that in itself is its own curse...and if it came down to a choice of what i'd rather watch, the nip-nips win 10 times out of 10...

More surprising is the fact that the team/stadium security is at best condoning through indifference or at worst covering up for drunken loutish behavior that if left unchecked, will eventually escalate to groping and assaults...Real quietly, I would not be surprised if Jets ownership got a call from the commish asking them in no uncertain terms to straighten this shit out in the name of good PR...But then again, Goodell only seems to want to drop the hammer on individual players, not team owners...

let's hope the knicks fans don't start picking this up from their team's example

I half-expect this ridiculous behavior from Jet fans because they're assholes anyway....what shocks me is that the team (and the league) is letting this fester without lifting a finger to protect their customers.

46. don't you have a life to live?
I've found that when someone adopts a judgmental, holier-than-thou stance on a issue, its usually an effort to suppress their own feelings of inadequacy and self-hatred. This is especially true when the individual has a less than solid understanding of human nature. In other words, Thou doth protest too much.

I have no qualms and no problem stating that I'm a better person than a bunch of classless animals who look forward all week to the glorious 1/2 hour they get on Sunday to stand on the concourse at the Meadowlands and verbally assault female strangers. That is when they're not graduating up to actual assault on females.

I'm interested to hear I have a "less than solid" understanding of human nature. What biology or sociology class did I miss where they covered how it was OK to yell at a total stranger to show me her tits? Or forcibly molest a female at a football game?

64. Here's a good place to begin
http://www.amazon.com/Crowds-Power-Elias-Canetti/dp/0374518203

Its a book by the prize winning writer Elias Canetti called Crowds and Power. Its a groundbreaking work analyzing the dynamics of crowd behavior. Interestingly, Jets fans were not singled out in his work. Perhaps you could write an epilogue.

I realize it will be a bit more dense than freshman sociology, but you did ask. And no, you're not holier than me or anyone else, you just haven't matured yet. Sure, your nuts may have dropped but you may be in an extended awkward phase. Hang in there.

39. I went to the first game in the new Baltimore stadium
what was that '98?

Anyway it was against the Steelers. Kordell was playing then and I got to know every intimate detail of his day to day life from some VERY knowing fans :eyes:

Seriously it was so bad that there is NO WAY I would ever take a kid under the age of 16 to a game.

Fights every where. Grown men fighting in the middle of the afternoon.

After the opening kickoff I was standing there-everyone had stood up for the first kickoff- and I heard the guy in the row right behind me (with his family who all looked remarkably alike) just screaming at some "*(#$sucking FAGGOT" to sit down. I thouhgt,"Man that guy is mad at SOMEONE" I then looked around and I was the only one still standing up. I sat down- I had thought that we would stand up for most of the game, apparently not. I was with my work so I did get all manned up and kick his ass....yeah that's it.

43. While I'm not so naive to think that this only happens at an NFL game
I have noticed the whole atmosphere at a football game is much, much uglier than a baseball or NHL game. Hell, even soccer fans in Europe mix in some cleverness and wit in their vulgarity (see the chant they used when Beckham was still with Man U. about his wife's predilection for sex in an uncomfortable place) and ultra-violence.

NFL games, to me, seem like one long homophobic, misogynist, anti-social circus where the contest on the field pales in attention span and interest to the contests in the stands to see who can get drunkest quickest and start fights with total strangers for no earthly reason.

55. I was shocked to learn that the 49er's have obnoxious fans.
We went to see the Bills play the 49er's in San Francisco a few years ago. These four young male yahoo Niners fans sat behind us and were immediately loud and obnoxious - annoying everyone around them - Bills and Niner fans alike. Then they all pulled out cans of beer they smuggled into the stadium. One of them opened a can, covering the guy sitting next to me with beer spew... He laughed it off, which really set me off and I knew right then as the game went on that these jerks were going to get way nastier and out of control. So I went up to the ushers, told them that they brought in cans and pointed them out. As they were looking, one of the yahoo's was taking a nice giant swig from his smuggled can. The cops were then called and away went the yahoos - much to the pleasure of everyone around them, the crowd applauded as they were escorted out.

This is the kind of thing you'd expect in Cleveland or Buffalo, that's so not the kind of "San Francisco Values" that I'm used to.

62. Yeah, but that's definitely the exception and they were removed.
For the most part Niner fans are polite, informed and there to watch the game and have a good time. I've been going to games at the 'stick since I was a kid, and almost all of the fights and bad behavior I've seen (and I haven't seen much) came from fans of other teams- mostly drunk Cowgirls and Cheddarheads back in the nineties.

And let me tell you, back when all the seats were season tickets, if you let somebody use your seats and they were an ass, you'd hear all about it from your neighbors (and you sit next to the same people for years and years, you get to know them pretty well) for a long time afterward. As a result, there was a real incentive to screen anybody who was going to use your seats carefully, your reputation was at risk based on their behavior. Now that there are single-game seats readily available, that sort of thing might be less self-policing in sections with a high proportion of single-game sales to season ticket holders, but down in the better seats there's still a definite code of decorum involved.

If people want to make drunken asses of themselves, there's a place for them across the bridge.

New-York-Baseball-Giants fans. Yankees fans have always been and tend to live (or their parents did) in some place called the Bronx. When you're about five your parents tell you which team you'll bee cheering for. My folks were from Brooklyn and were huge baseball fans and I wouldn't have even known the Yankees existed if I didn't read the sports page. I haven't been a NYer for decades so I don't know if there's any sort of demographics going on nowadays.

I don't think it's really possible to pin down what makes a fan. My father is from Brooklyn. He's a Yankees fan. My brothers and I were all born in Queens. We're Mets fans. And all of us are Jets fans.

I couldn't tell you why my brothers didn't become Yankees fans. I'm a Mets fan because they won the WS when I was ten years old and just beginning to appreciate sports.

Apparently I'm a Jets fan because I'm a pig? Or I'm a pig because I'm a Jets fan. I dunno, you'll have to ask the OP.

42. I would be interested in that data
I couldn't even begin to guess what the demographic breakdowns are for each team's fans (location, income level, level of education, ethnicity, etc).

We can reasonably conclude there is a much richer and prouder contingent of Giants fans (who've been a championship pro team in NYC since the 30's). On the other hand, the Jets basically only have the 1969 Super Bowl to hang their hat on....in the 48 seasons the New York Titans/Jets have been in existence, they've only had 15 winning seasons and only 6 playoff wins since their '69 miracle.

48. The Bills aren't much better
21 winning seasons out of 48....but at least they have a 52-42 edge in games vs. the Jets

51. In the fictional book "semi-tough" they explained it by stating-
Giants fans are from all the high end parts of town (Manhattan, Staten Island) while Jets fans are from the lower end burroughs (Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx). Supposively this is true.
