5. Who the hell thought Annandale was appropriate subject matter
for song lyrics? D.C. bureaucrats probably rock out to that part.

Chevy Chase was a classmate and played drums in an early version of the band.

6. Oh, me! me!
:hi:

It's not an active loathing, though. Their sound just irritates me, like nails on a blackboard. I'm not saying they're bad; they just don't tickle MY ears nicely.

11. I'm beginning to like Steely Dan, and it concerns me
I wonder if it's not a consequence of getting older; if so, it's frightening. At this rate, I might start liking Chicago any time now. In fact, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to find some punk to listen to...

14.  Your everlasting summer...

You can see it fading fast
So you grab a piece of something
That you think is gonna last
You wouldnt know a diamond
If you held it in your hand
The things you think are precious
I cant understand

As one who went to Annandale High School (Home of the Atoms) I can understand the line "California tumbles into the sea. That'll be the day I go back to Annandale."

32. Pop music is too trivial to "hate".
Steely Dan was fine in it's time, which was what, 25 years ago???

Time has moved on, however.

Like all so-called classic rock, the stuff has been played to death. To death. I never need to hear any of it ever again.

36. try other genres of music
you being a relative youngster haven't heard this stuff from the very beginning.

My wife said one day "are we the first generation to be forced to listen to the music of our teenage years forever?"

I gave up on rock in the mid-80s, and went off exploring African, Caribbean and Latin styles. Also classical music and jazz.

I still like some roots-rock and blues, but don't care if I hear many rock songs ever again. They have worn trenches in my memory.

Spearhead. Widespread Panic. Gov't Mule. String Cheese Incident. Leftover Salmon. Arcade Fire. My Morning Jacket. Galactic. ben Harper. Ani DiFranco.

There is so much really great music made by newer acts.....

34. I used to be wowed when I was younger
But when I got older and realized I was being wowed by their audio engineering. Yes, they have some cool tunes, but now it works better as background music. If I really want some good music to penetrate me I'll listen to the Shins, or Ellliot Smith, or Jesus Christ Superstar or myriad other things a little more raw, with more heart and less fabricated.

38. Not my favorite....
all chops..not much heart....I actually saw them on their first (and only till the 90's) tour in 74. they opened for Rare Earth (imagine That!) and the reviewers all hated it. They did no type of show, just played the music etc. I thought it was great myself, I love their first two albums. But that was a baqnd, not just Fagen and Brecker as they are now with a hired band. But now they seem to have gotten too self absorbed.
