...and that's Rising by Lustmord. Eerie dark ambient stuff, definitely not for everyone.

Be thankful that you're out of touch with some of today's music, however. Some of it's just corporate bubblegum shit for the masses. Sometimes I just have to turn on something like Showtime at the Apollo or A Prairie Home Companion just to cleanse my mental palette. Damn good stuff on both programs.

Actually, it's my first CD from the guy. I've heard that it may not be his most original work ever, but it is his first live performance in 25 years. The Church of Satan hired him to produce the music for their 40th anniversary Black Mass, so Lustmord showed up with his iMac, plugged a DAT recorder into the output, and the rest is history.

As for the performance itself - very dark, brooding, and contemplative. Has a tendency to catch you off balance every once in a while. Don't know if I'd say that Rising sounds "Satanic," but then again, I wasn't there. But it was masterfully done with only a couple of minor glitches, and Lustmord tied up the entire performance rather nicely. Recorded breaths and gasps from Jarboe (ex-Swans) also pepper one of the tracks.

Listen to the CD in a dark room at night, with surround sound or some good studio monitor headphones if you can. Don't play it over and over or it might lose some of its power. Break it out for "special" occasions like Halloween or something.

Everything from vocal pitch to background is massaged via electronics. So you aren't listening to real musicians, but rather technicians.

I suspect that the lyrics are written from a computer program, too. I've never heard such banal, repetitive verbiage. They take a phrase like "Oh what you do to me" and run it through a program that's designed to measure the level of torture to the listener. The more torture, the better for play.

those are my top three, but I also listen to the Stones, Aerosmith, Queen, U2, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel, CCR, Billy Joel, etc., etc. :hi: (I know some of these are still touring & all, but there are never concerts in my area, and when there are shows within a reasonable distance, I'm always busy for some reason. x() Peace. :hi:

I did see the Stones on their 1981 tour. General admission at a venue that held about 15,000. As much as the music snob in me hates to admit it, that was probably the best show I ever saw.

U2 played to thousands of empty seats at my college two years before I got there.

27. OK, a 50 yr old checks in

Two bands I saw on tv this weekend.

Hot Hot Heat left me cold, personally. Just one song on Leno, but I doubt I'll be buying ticket.

However, Arcade Fire on Austin City Limits was another story. I was exposed to their first record and certainly heard the raves from some of y'all here about Neon Bible.

But I must say, the main draw for me is the live performance. I may get the disc, but it was the celebratory vibe of the show that I dug. A lot. Reminded me hippie/Dead days, generally speaking. Constant up and down dynamics and arrangements that are really more surprising than the "unison" parts seem to suggest. Eno- like vibe to the melodies, totally infectious and banging crowd/group synergy, no midi-sync or prerecord.

Please tell me, after all this, it was released in 2007? Plus, any live DVDs out?

friendly crap that kids are mostly exposed to. You can check out the thread about the the top CDs from 2007. It is probably a few pages back now. Anyhow, my music is American Metalcore, Prog Metal, Industrial, EBM, FuturePop. All good stuff from very talented artists.

don't know what type of music you like but there is a lot of good stuff from this year. Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Ryan Adams, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, M.I.A., Radiohead and Spoon all released fantastic music this year.
