I am so tempted to chop off my hair.
I've never had hair much shorter than shoulder-length. At present, I have heat-styled it into a state of being that I can only liken to wisps of straw, shaved and splintered into fractious strands of hideous, lethargic, fruitless affectation.

Should I hack it or what?

6. Yes, they are...
..and, in my case anyway, it seems to take forever to grow back!

I guess you could always ask a stylist what their opinion is of the cut you want.

Or, post a pic here... you know you'll get feedback! :hi:

that grows anywhere but from the scalp.

9. Agreed.
Nice thing is, I don't need a hairdresser license to work on others, either. Mrowr...

5. cutting off all the old damaged hair can transform what is left.
i have had very long (to my booty) and very short (about 1" to 1.5" long). recently it was below the bottom of my shoulder blades and i had it chopped to a short stack. now the back goes to the base of my skull right and it gradually gets longer toward the front.

my coworkers were always telling me how they like my hair (it is curly) and to NEVER cut it but after i did (i have had it this way before) they are now all about the new cut. it does get a little old having everyone feel the need to put their hands in my hair.

and remember...it will always grow back if you don't like it.

7. I'm really tempted. I'm also tempted to dye it a different color.
Guess I'm getting bored with the status quo...

i changed my color to feria's midnight ruby. it says it is a dark red/black but on me it faded and is now a dark reddish brown. but it sure was pretty for a day or two.

on edit: i turned 42 in september and i was feeling pretty boring. i don't know. i feel refreshed in a way.

11. I have very short hair
and wouldn't change it. No fuss, no muss. But my hair is very curly and any time in gets long, it looks like an out-of-control afro and I don't have the patience or the willingness to screw with it to resemble any sort of style.

If your hair is damaged, coloring it may make it worse.

15. Do it! Do it!
You might love it, and you'll never know until you try. If you hate it, it will grow back relatively soon. I chopped mine about 2.5 years ago and pretty much never looked back, and I love it.

Chopping day:

17. Go for it. Try chin length and see if you like it.
If not, you can always grow it back.

I try to live by the "hair is merely an accessory" philosophy. Seriously, go for it!
