Anyone remember Egg Creams?
I mean the real ones that you use to get in the city that were so good.

Damn! Did you do the rounds at CBGB's, Trax and the Ritz? What's the name of the club that was out on Stanton Island? I also was a regular at My Fathers Place out of the island.

What happened to the old timey egg creams?

You had to take the elevator up a few levels right?

15. Up/right
You had to get into this really funky elevator with a bunch of zombies. I remember this club being really popular when rockabilly got popular.

10. That's for sure
I live in Memphis and they don't have a clue. I make my own using Ubet syrup when I can find it and seltzer with cold milk. It is very important just to mix the right amount of seltzer and milk otherwise it doesn't taste right. Oh how I year for those days on Kings Highway in Brooklyn at the corner candy store. Boy could the owner, Sol, make a great one.

5. No, but I remember them being mentioned in one of my favorite books.
Harriet the Spy. GREAT book. I recommend it to readers of any age.

(I aspire to write a kid's novel that rivals this masterpiece by Louise Fitzhugh (RIP, she died a couple of years ago).)

7. Yummmy memories!
I used to get my art supplies when I was a college student over at Pearl Paint and then across the street to Dave's Corner for the egg cream. Ahhh! :D

13. 2nd and St Marks
The newstand on the corner had a decent egg cream and then there was B&H dairy down the street for borscht and the best challah.

16. Yeah, but what the hell was in them.
I recall that they didn't involve eggs. I think it was milk and seltzer with a little chocolate syrup.

Now that I've more or less forgotten how to make an egg cream life seems sterile and cold, a rote excercise in cynicism and the full bitterness of my jealous rages.

I think I'll have a diet coke.

17. I remember a TV Show from when I was a kid
about a kid who wanted to see Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar), and his elderly Grandfather thought he meant egg cream.

"But grandpa, I want to see Kareem!"
"I'll take you to get an egg cream soon..."

Anyway, I've always wondered what it was. Anyone care to describe for us southerners?
