Poll question: Which is more likely to cause the downfall of America?
I would say Bush, but given how people are reacting to the "Wardrobe malfunction" Who knows

5. Gee, what a pleasant poll.
Why is everyone so convinced that there is an impending 'Downfall of America' or that it already happened?

This country has been though an awful lot and I feel that it (we) can weather the current Jackass in the White House and come out of this experience stronger and more aware.

6. A downfall isn't necessarily a bad thing...
The Holy Roman Empire met its downfall, but Rome is still there. The British Empire has been steadily waning for a century or so; but London's well intact. Napolean's blownapart; but France is still going strong.

The art, the music, the cuisine, and the sense of style are probably better for not being part of an empire.

7. A downfall would most certainly be a bad thing......
I don't particularly want the country that I'm living in to have a downfall.

There are other ways of advancing besides through destruction.

8. Who says it needs to be via destruction?
Destruction didn't end the British Empire.

What I'm suggesting is that we need to get our nose out of places where it doesn't belong...like Iraq and Afghanistan...so we could focus on evolving from our current war-mongering state.

12. I understand your point of view, and I don't mean to nitpick.....
but getting out of Iraq and Afghanistan and concentrating on getting our own house in order would cause an economic windfall rather than a downfall....one which I for one am looking forward to beginning somewhere around January of next year.

16. Another not on the list: Virtual Reality
I truly fear when we get this one down. Back when Dennis Miller was funny he pointed out that VR would make crack look like going out on the lawn and spinning until you fall down. The day that Joe Sixpack could just nestle down in his easy chair for a quick romp with Pamela Lee and her twin sister instead of going to work, its over.*

*Heavily paraphrased due to my laziness in looking up the actual bit.

18. Yellowstone Eruption
Ok, I know not on the list, and not what you're asking, but the one thing I could see actually making the government completely ineffective, and driving people in the USA into hunter-gatherer roles, is Yellowstone erupting.
