Tale of car buying
We have a daughter who is going to be a sophomore at a state owned University here in Iowa. She worked all summer as well as last summer, so she decided she wanted to buy a car. And she wanted "dear ol' dad" to go with her (:. Anyway, she went to check on one that was advertised in the local paper. It was a Toyota, in reasonably good shape except for one thing. It had a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker on it. I told the guy who had the car that probably drove the value of it down by $500 or more. The guy then told us to get lost. Not exactly those words though. Kelly decided the guy was probably trying to rip off an impressionable young lady and we left. We (she) finally found a decent older Chevrolet and she paid for it and now is the proud owner of her first automobile. She did agree with me about the Toyota, that it shouldn't be seen in public unless that gawd awful sticker was removed. Makes me think I did something right raising a daughter!:-)

1. Never trust a FReep . . . good thinking
I had a Chevy Impala in 1984 or there abouts that ran for going on a decade. I finally gave it away to an unemployed woman with small child who needed a car for a potential job. I wouldn't be surprised if the dang thing is still running.

2. Just make sure you read the bumper-sticker right!
Funny story:

We provide housing for the Nashua-area Dean campaign coordinator.

For some reason, CNN wanted to interview our guest, so the CNN camera
crew was walking up to our house one morning to do the interview
just as we were leaving for vacation in the family bumper stickermobile.

Among a few other stickers on the back of our red Caravan (license
plate: "SOCLST") is a "BUSH/Cheated" bumper sticker. You know, looks
like a normal "BUSH/Cheney" bumper sticker but says something a wee
bit different.

Well, the CNN camera crew saw our bumper sticer, decided that we were
Bush supporters and that they were walking up to the wrong house, and
proceeded to walk over to the neighbors' house. Our archly-Republican
neighbors' house.

We continued to drive away, but as we were leaving and the camera
crew was walking up to our Republican neighbor's house, my wife was
envisioning our neighbors' reaction to a camera crew showing up at
their door and she was singing the "COPS!" theme. You know, "Bad boys,
bad boys, what'cha gonna do when they come for you?"

The moral of the story is "Be sure to read those bumper stickers
carefully, (bad) boys and girls!"

BTW, CNN did eventually find their way back to our house and the
interview was taped, but as far as I know, the story still hasn't
aired yet; CNN promised our guest a copy of the tape when it does.

3. My Daughter Is a Republican
Makes me think I did something right raising a daughter ...

My daughter didn't get any of her Republican ideas from her parents, I can tell you that. She seems to love money more than anything else, so maybe that's what motivates her.

At least she's not a drug addict or an actual criminal ...

and would show forged auto repair bills, too! Good move, Bluzmann57.

6. Wouldn't buy a used car from a ReTHUG...
Don't you remember those posters with Nixon on them: "Would you buy a used car from this man?"

Probably had zero maintainence the last 6 months he owned it. Cheap tyres, motor honey to mask the expensive noises in the internals, a tranny packed with sawdust and bananas to hide the gear whine, etc.
And probably disconnected the odometer at 70,000 miles, 5 years ago...
