OK, confess: who else reads UFO books
I adit it, I devour the damn things.

Communion.
Transformation.
The Andreasson Affair.
Watchers.
Intruders.
Incident at Exeter.
The Mothman Phrophecies.

Read 'em all.

Now that I've confirmed everyone's worst suspicions about my stability, I open the floor to your comments!

1. Milton Sprouse was on the local TV station the other day, talking about
his time stationed at Roswell Army Air Field, and what he said was very convincing to me. I am convinced now that what crashed in Roswell in 1947 was not a weather balloon, that it was an extraterrestrial craft, and that there were 5 beings aboard it. This is the only UFO case that I have no doubt left about. I am uncertain about the Rex Heflin photos from Santa Ana, California in 1965 - even though those very photos were in our house for one night. (My dad worked with Rex Heflin at the Orange County Road Department, and he brought those photos home for one night). I still don't really know about that one, even though I once held those photos in my hands.

3. Cool
Those are some of the quintessential images.

I grew up about 6 miles from the site of the events described in "Incident at Exeter", though I've never met any of the surviving witnesses.

Last year, I was driving back from a meeting in the north country, and realized that I was on the same stretch of road where Betty and Barney Hill were allegedly abducted in the 1960s. It's in the middle of nowhere, so it was a bit of a creepy experience!

5. That would be chilling
The Betty and Barney Hill story, and one that crashed at Kecksburg, PA, are the other 2 UFO stories that I find most believable. Also those 2 guys in Pascagoula, Mississippi in the early 1970s. That's a pretty believable one too. But the only one that I am convinced about is the Roswell one. I don't really believe much of the Area 51 stuff, even though I met Bob Lazar once at a fireworks convention in Lake Havasu, and had brunch with him and his wife with several other people, but he was so ambivalent about it all that I don't really think that Area 51 amounts to much, frankly.

16. I remember reading about them at the time, and the "shocking" part was that they were a bi-racial
couple!

2. I used to but haven't in ages.
I am not exactly a believer in extraterrestrial intelligence visiting earth in flying saucers, but the concept just fascinates me.

8. Same here; used to read everything there was
That drew me to sci-fi writers, and eventually hard core science.

I don't regret the mind opening experience of contemplating the possibilities in my youth.

Now I draw pleasure from that which is.

12. I'm more drawn to the mysterious aspect of it than anything.
The idea of the unknown and all that.

4. I do, but I think for completely opposite reasons that you do
"Beyond Top Secret" is probably my fave.

The more I read them, the more I am convinced that the examples shown to prove the existence of alien visitation are incorrect.

9. I'm interested in that stuff
One of my friends works with the one of the authors of "Mexico's Roswell." I'd never heard of this story (although I recall hearing about a UFO on the Brownsville radar when I was a kid). It really sounds interesting, so if you want to add to your collection, I'd recommend it.

They filmed a segment for the History Channel recently, but are not sure of the air date.

10. Heard of it
Haven't read it, though.

I'll reccomend one for you. "Out There", by Howard Blum. Blum is a mainstream journalist, and not a UFO/Forteana writer. The opening chapter, describing the hair-trigger environment in NORAD during the late Cold War, is unsettling.

11. Noe didn't start out to be a UFO writer either
He was collecting Valley ghost stories & wanted to include a chapter on UFO sitings. He kept getting so much info on this crash that he's put off writing the ghost stories book (dammit; I love good ghost stories!) & wrote a book about this crash instead.

18. All the time, back in the seventies.
Stuff like Menger's From Outer Space, Incident At Exeter, Somebody Else Is on the Moon, and all those Chariots of the Gods knock-offs.

Nowadays, not so much. The first half of Communion is one of the scariest things I've ever read.
