ShineBoy got a 5 game set called Orange Box. Have you heard of it?
It's a bundled set of 5 different games that are supposed to be pretty cool. He got it for his PC but they also have a Xbox version.
Here's the info on it, if you're curious: http://orange.half-life2.com/

Let it be said that I am NOT a video game type of person. It's never been my thang. But as I was doing some research about the different games this thing comes with, I came across a guy who raved about the specific game called "Portal", which is a 3-D puzzle sort of thing. This guy was saying that his wife, who HATES video games, actually was totally hooked and really loved it.

I made the mistake of telling ShineBoy that guy's comments about his wife liking it and now he won't leave me alone. On the way out the door for school this morning he asked me again, for the 15th time, if he could teach it to me later.

I guess I can't keep putting him off. It'll be a Mother/Son "bonding experience".

Any words of advice? Should I fully embrace the gaming experience?

4. If you really want to piss him off,
let him get part way into Portal and then tell him (highlight below to see):
The cake is a lie! There is no cake!

I wrote it in white in case anyone got annoyed. It could be construed as a spoiler.

7. Go for it...
Please don't deny him the experience of teaching something to his Mom. It's also an opportunity to share a (presumed) common interest.

If you really don't like it then you can drift away from it quickly enough.

Give it a try!

Probably not, I've only got a 32 meg video card.

23. Well then I saved 50 bucks. :)
Seriously though, I figured why spend money on a better card when I can't afford the newer games anyway... when I can afford the games, I'll be able to afford a card.

16. The actress who did GLaDOS's voice was perfect for the role.
And the writing in Portal was magnificent. Definitely off-kilter humor, but hilarious.

It includes a trip under the bed. No treadmarked underwear and stale food though.

24. My youngest learned to read thanks to video games.
When he was very young, he would try to play games, but would get frustrated, because he didn't understand how to operate the controls, etc. So we reminded him that he'd get the hang of things as soon as he learned to read. It's amazing how this motivated him. I played phonics games with him, and by the time he turned 4, he was reading quite well.

He likes doing other things, too; so I rarely have any problem getting him off the game. Exercise is never a problem either, as he likes to dance around while he's playing. Eye-Toy has also been helpful in that regard.

Enjoy playing with him! :hi:
