Thanks for turning me on to these guys... Also, besides being a musician, I work with young people and they know I'm always open to them telling me names of bands I should check out, although I don't always have time to do so... Another band that's still got something to say and does it powerfully is Rancid. Saw 'em as recently as a year ago, and they FUCKING ROCKED. Nostalgia for the past is understandable though, when you think about the mid sixties and realize that on any given week, the top ten would, as likely as not, contain The Beatles, The Stones, The Beachboys, The Four Tops,The Byrds, The Kinks, Lovin Spoonful, The Animals, Wilson Pickett, The Temptations, and Bob Dylan (OK top 11)...(Then why is Yummy Yummy Yummy running through my head? Someone please make it stop) . Given all those great artists all at the peak of their creativity at the same time, though, its not like they have been the only ones... Great, important music continues to be made if you look for it.The aforementioned Franti and Rancid... I've really been impressed with Arcade Fire, who I recently got turned on to...

8. Rancid are pretty decent, if not trying a little too hard to be The Clash.
There is so much good music out there though that a lot of people just aren't willing to admit. It's sad, really.

9. Being a huge Clash fan,
I agree that Rancid wears their Clash influence not just on their sleeves, but head to toe. But they pull it off. To me, they walk the same walk the Clash did; they got the heart and soul of it down, not just the surface, and that's why I respect em so much (besides the fact that as I said, they FUCKING ROCK). When I first heard Out Come The Wolves, my immediate impression was that, of course, on one level you could call it a rip off, but to my ears it was like the Clash had stopped making great Clash albums, so Rancid made a great Clash album instead, and updated for the 90's and with an American viewpoint... With Strummer having sadly left this world when we still needed him so badly, I for one am glad that Tim and Lars and the guys are still out there doing their thing. " In these days, the beat is militant, Must be a clash, there's no alternative.."
