Freeper idiocy at work
I found this posted over there:

Special E-Letter
Dear friends,
I am deeply disturbed by what happened during last night?s halftime show of the Super bowl. I was downstairs cleaning up the kitchen when the halftime show began and when I overheard the lyrics of the songs I went upstairs to have the kids switch the channel. Too late! When it was over I called my mother and said, ?Did what I think just happened, really happen??
As a family, we immediately knelt down and repented on behalf of America and pled for mercy on our country. We prayed the scripture in 2 Chronicles 7:14, ?If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.?
At the end of the game we had a family discussion and talked about how we could make our voice heard, that there were people in America who were not willing to stand back and watch our country go the way of cultures in the past who gave themselves over to the flesh and were destroyed.
MTV produced the halftime show but AOL was the official sponsor. We can?t boycott MTV because we don?t subscribe. But we can cancel our AOL service ? and we did! When I called AOL this morning to cancel they asked me why I was punishing AOL instead of CBS or the NFL.
I explained that CBS would not know if our family never watched another show on their network because we aren?t a ?Nielson? ratings family. Same goes for the NFL. I don?t hold within my hands any influence to impact CBS, NFL or MTV. But AOL does!
If enough people cancel their AOL subscriptions, you can believe me, AOL will go directly to CBS, NFL, MTV and any other acronym involved, and their voice (and pocketbook) will be heard.
May I share a personal aspect to this story? For over a year Haven has been campaigning for ?Instant Messenger.? I have repeatedly said no, explaining that I felt it was a time-waster. Last week the subject came up again, but she had a fresh argument. She said, ?Television is also a time-waster and you let me watch that after all my school work is done.? I responded, ?Good point. Are you willing to trade television privileges for IM??
When she said that she would, she gave up watching television unless the whole family was watching something together, (which is very rare.) Tucker made the same choice and three days ago Steve loaded AIM, AOL?s Instant Messenger service. (We?ve had an AOL account for over ten years!) She has had the best time since then chatting with her friends and I was happy because, as many of you know, the kids have not made friends as quickly as I thought they would since we moved.
Last night when I put Haven to bed, I told her that I felt like we should cancel our AOL subscription but I would ultimately leave the decision up to Tucker and her because they were the most who would most be impacted by the choice.
With tears running down her cheeks and onto the pillow she said, ?I will make the right choice, but it is so hard. I waited so long to get IM. I don?t want to, but I will do the right thing.?
I was so proud of her. (BTW, Tucker agreed, too, but he was more mad than sad.) Living in America, we don?t often have to suffer for our beliefs. I believe canceling our AOL account is a small way that we can take a stand for Christ and do our part in ?turn(ing) from our wicked ways.? AOL may not hear, but God will and, perhaps, He ?will forgive (our) sins and heal (our) land.?
Blessings,
Lisa Whelchel
www.lisawhelchel.com
P.S. Feel free to forward this E-letter to as many people as you know. Perhaps, collectively, our voices will be heard.

note: someone needs to tell these morons that you can use AIM without subscribing to AOL.

8. I've been trying to cancel my AOL for
over a month now because I just can't take it anymore, all the bullshit they're constantly pulling, etc., but I can't seem to talk to someone who actually speaks English well enough to be understood.

And when I finally do get ahold of someone who's actually understandable, I simply cannot wait to tell them where to stick it and what they can do with it after they've stuck it. And I also can't wait to tell them that I'm having nothing to do with companies who outsource their jobs to other countries, leaving American workers high and dry, and to companies who don't and won't hire AMERICAN workers!

I will not have my money go to support workers in other countries when so many millions in THIS country are in desperate need of work!

28. LOL!
Right on, Dean! And ditto to the poster who said Jo should have kicked the shit out of her when she had the chance!

And I find it both hilarious and infuriating when "Christians" (I say it that way because they're not really Christians in the true sense of the word) weep and wail and moan and groan and whine and complain about being "persecuted" and "suffering for their beliefs." They want to know REAL "persecution and suffering?" Try being a non-Christian (agnostic, atheist, Jew, Muslim, etc., etc.) in a supposedly "Christian" country such as ours.

I'm so glad to belong to a church that actually understands this and that doesn't waste time with silly, stupid shit like claiming "persecution and suffering" where there is none, and that does what these wingnut fundies have forgotten is the true mission of Christianity, to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable, to be a voice for the voiceless and bring hope to the hopeless, to speak out for those without power and a voice in society, the homeless, the hungry, the sick, the imprisoned, the poor, the elderly, abused and neglected children, etc., etc., etc., etc.

There are so many, many needs and so many, many desperate people needing help that it is, in my view, damn near criminal to focus on shit like profanity and breasts and song lyrics, etc., etc.

18. Well, good for her!
It's a little odd, but it's nice to see someone who is willing to take what stand they can and live with the consequences and let their voice be known.

personally, I'd rather she would have stopped using AOL for ethical reasons 10 years ago and not waited until they sponsored a show over which tehy had no real control as to whether someone was gonna exose a booby.

But, any dent in the AOL machine is a good dent.

And I applaud her for standing up for her beliefs.

And absolutely beautiful children.

27. She's married to a parish minister.
I read that a few years ago. I imagine she's a stay-at-home mom, so the only income they have would be his salary, and her FoL residuals, which must be drying up by now...

Maybe she'll close her website, and then there'll be one less fundie site out there.

Sad...I really enjoyed her in "The Blair Warner Project".

32. I'm touched that Lisa Whelchel's
kids are having so much trouble finding new friends. Could it be that maybe the new neighbors don't like Mom and find her a bit sanctimonious?

I don't want to start the flame war to end all flame wars, but perhaps the best way to handle that little issue was to simply shut off the TV set, tell the children it wasn't appropriate for them to watch, and not make such an ISSUE of what they saw. You bet your boots those kids won't ever forget the day they saw Janet Jackson's boob now.

I especially enjoyed the breathless recitation of Haven's "suffering for her beliefs". My thoughts on that matter are unprintable on this website.

In the meantime, wait till she hears that Steve Case is a "family man" who sponsored all this "filth". (Wait till her kids ask her why she's on the Web. Isn't the Web full of "filth", too?)

39. And of course the most ironic part of this - the lyrics of Facts of Life
I've highlighted some relevant bits, but you can find your own.

First Season:

There's a place you've got to go for learning
all you want to know about the facts of life
the facts of life

When books are what you're there about
and looks are what you care about
the time is right,
to learn the facts of life.

When the world never seems
to be livin' up to your dreams
it's time you started finding out
what everything is all about

When the boys you used to hate you date,
I guess you best investigate
the facts of life, you gotta get 'em right,
the facts of life,
the facts of life,
the facts of life

Second Version:

You take the good, you take the bad
you take them both and there you have
the facts of life
the facts of life

There's a time you've got to go
and show you're growing and now you know
the facts of life
the facts of life

When the world never seems
to be livin' up to your dreams
and suddenly you're finding out
the facts of life are all about you, you

It takes a lot to get 'em right
when you're learning the facts of life
learning the facts of life,
learning the facts of life

And then the end theme:
You'll avoid a lot of damages
and enjoy the fun of managing
the facts of life,
they shed a lot of light
If you hear them from your brother
better clear them with your mother
better get them right,
call her late at night

You got the future in the palm of your hands
all you gotta do to get you throught is understand
you think you rather do without,
you will never make it through without the truth
the facts of life are about you.
