What blows my mind about the half-time show last night ..... <begin rant>
Is how the Superbowl is all of a sudden this BIG family event!! Now that something racy (imagine that during the Superbowl) has occurred during the show. How can ANYONE even begin to defend the Superbowl as a FAMILY program when the ads that are sold are so blatantly NON-family values? Sexy supermodels selling products; sex, sex, sex; beer commercials; commercials for erectile problems; ???????? Is anyone seeing my point here??????

Now, because Miss Jackson revealed a boob (I'm not debating whether or not it was on purpose), the Superbowl is the holy grail of family entertainment and she and Timberlake (and MTV, CBS, etc.) are evil in the face of all that is sacred????? Give me a BREAK!! CBS asked MTV to produce their half-time show. Maybe some of those execs should have actually WATCHED MTV (in particular, some of their big productions, like the MTV Video Music Awards) to see what they would be getting.

What the hell is the big deal about a boob anyways?????? Half the population has them (usually larger than the other half that is). Is a woman's body so nasty that everyone has to treat this like it's some dirty, horrible incident that will forever scar the children?? Puh-lease!

<end rant>

Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 01:30 PM by Homer12

4. LMAO ...
Hubby was laughing about the ad that cautioned about the 4 hour erection. Apparently every woman's dream is a medical disorder that needs immediate medical attention! LMAO

I don't think Kaiser covers that ... but I bet if we send them mass e-mails they'll come up with a cure :-)

5. And her nipple was covered too
- perfectly in keeping with TV standards. Nothing to see here, but why oh why is it a media sensation? Could it be a publicity campaign to make these two performers and CBS have higher ratings and make more money?

I notice CBS's "apology" was on the air within minutes yet it no doubt took longer to write. The whole thing has the odor of a publicity campaign for ratings, and that's probably exactly what it is.

6. I wonder how many women were knocked around last night
after the game. That was one of the most misogynistic orgies that I have ever seen. The ads (with a few exceptions)were stupid, terrible, mean spirited and often exploitive of women. The only ads that were done with any taste or discretion were the erectile disfunction ads...I guess we need to treat men with kid gloves but it's ok to rip women's clothes off and otherwise exploit them. This kind of stuff just can't be good for our culture!

12. You're right, but
at least it wasn't obscene or abusive of women. I guess it's a pretty sad day when I can see one of those ads as tasteful. :eyes:

14. I'd say it was as obscene as anything else seen during the game --
Different arena, but the tough guy image was played to the hilt.

8. absolutely!
That's the real evil that was done last night.

Sex-obsessed ads, a kind of violent game (though I'm not bothered by football at all), alcohol abounding everywhere, mass consumerism as the path to happiness.

And no one cares.

Expose a breast for a few seconds, and it's a terraist act.

But Jackson achieved what she wanted - people are talking about her. Sad that she did it in such a way, too: it was rather demeaning and the "rape scenario" aspect is troubling. (not that exposing oneself or showing a breast is demeaning in itself, it's just the way she did it with the guy removing her clothign in public).

And the reichwing got exactly what they needed - a MAJOR distraction, and the higher-ups will continue to feed the distraction as long as they can.

9. I disagree completely
The ED ads were awful! The only ads I liked were the American Chopper-AOL ads.... now if only those ads were truthful :-) but at least they were funny.

15. on whether the exposure was planned or not . . .
- Ms. Jackson conveniently had a piece of hardware covering her nipple; why would she do that if she wasn't planning on exposing it?

- If you look at the closeups, you'll see that the piece that Timberlake removed has snaps all the way around it; it was intended to be removed.

- The MTV website promised unexpected excitement during the Jackson "performance" before the event happened.

- If it were not intentional, don't you think Janet Jackson would be screaming bloody murder at Justin Timberlake and threatening to sue the pants off him?

you decide . . .

16. They have to push Viagra in the ads
since they're pushing the beer so damn hard. If the sheep watching the thing drink all the beers that are foisted on them by the advertisements, they're sure as hell going to have erectile dysfunction, and apparently we've reached a state in this society where a man's worth is defined by the state of his willy, just as a woman's is defined by the shape of her mammary.

17. Kid Rock's blatant disregard of the flag was far more offensive
than an other part of the half time show. But somehow this "you're with us or against us" bs has made plastering the flag anywhere and everywhere acceptable.
