No, I am not in pain or mortal danger.

Today was harvest day for our backyard concord grapes.

I spent the entire day crushing grapes, cooking them, and sifting the juice through cheesecloth.

I am covered in concord grape juice.

1. Sounds like extremely fun work. And results.
I respect such crafts. I once saw a sign at a glassblowers that read "Technology does not teach reverence." (Some does, but that's another story.)

Won't enough of that juice leave stains on the skin that take a while to get out?

2. Yes, the stains will be there for a while
Although I used some diluted bleach to kill most of the stains, some of them remain, particularly around cuticles and nails.

When I get back to work on monday, I'll have to explain that my wife does not approve of grape crushing with bare feet, so I had to use my hands...

4. I wish
I could not hold a beat on the drums, even if you beat me to death with a beat metronome.

And of course, the results will be yummmmmmmy!

Are you making wine?

6. Dear CaliforniaPeggy!
I am making (rather, the missus and I are making) Concord grape jelly.

It has been a tradition, since we moved into this house 12 years ago, to make grape jelly every year from the vines in our back yard. We send some to family and close friends at Christmas.

The rest we use for Saturday morning pancakes year-round.

BTW: Our house was built in 1880. I suspect the vines are not that old!

:hi:

7. I should have realized you were making jelly!
There's no cooking in making wine!

And what a lovely gift you give...

Good for you!
