East coast people--what is your opinion of In and Out Burger?
I ask because I've never been there, but I've had a couple of people who've just raved and raved about the burgers there. Myself being a huge fan of good burgers, I wanted to try it when I was in Las Vegas, but my in-laws never felt like leaving the #%#$@ Strip when we were there and stupid In and Out Burger didn't put any of its restaraunts on the Strip.

And if In and Out Burgers really are that good, who the hell do they think they are not expanding to other parts of the country?

Of course if they are vastly overrated, then I'm in the clear.

5. I'm in NYC , but lived in LA. for 15 years...
...And I totally took advantage of the In'n'Out on Sunset Blvd., as well as their other outlets in CA. Is it life-changing? No. But it's the best drive-thru burger I've had, and their menu is so simple, it makes ordering a snap. Double burger with onions, large fries and chocolate shake.

The reason why they are good is the reason they haven't expanded. I'm okay with that. When I go to L.A. for Thanksgiving this year, I will make my pilgrimage to In'n'Out on Sunset. My wife (a native New Yorker) will be with me. I've converted her to the glory of the "In'n'Out Urge."

9. Nummy!
FWIW, In-N-Out is expanding, but slowly. They're not some corporate monster, and therefore haven't gone the route of floating hundreds of millions in stock (a la Starbucks and KrispyKreme) to take over the country. They're expanding at the pace their sales permit.

My fave: Double Double Animal Style with Extra Toast, hold the tomato. It's the most gloriously delicious artery plugging cheeseburger you'll ever eat.

11. Yes, they're that good, at least they were back in the 1980s. And they're not going to
expand because they're family-owned and the family isn't interested in expanding, is what I heard.

17. I tried Five Guys last week...was a little disappointed
They opened up a Five Guys near where I work in So Fla. The fries tasted a little undercooked to me....like I was chewing on a baked potato. The burgers were decent, better than most fast food fare, but not close to the best I've ever tasted. I vaguely remember Hardee's having really, really good burgers, but there are none of those down here.

16. There are several near me in SoCal. The menu
is short and to the point - single burger or double burger, with or without cheese. You can also order just grilled cheese - for some unknown reason that's known in In-N-Out Lingo as "Animal Style."

Their fries are pretty good. They have a variety of drinks, and that's about it. Oh, and good prices. Two burgers, fries, and drinks will only set you back about $10. Good deal.
