So, I missed Sex and the City last night.
What happened? Can anyone give me a synopsis? Thanks!

1. You can watch it on re-run on Saturday.. but here's what happened
Carrie wanted "the Russian" to meet her friends, and he blew her (and them off)..

The red headed one is starting to like Brooklyn..

The sexy one shot a sex video with her boyfriend so that people would not think she was a "fag-hag".. She was cropped out of a picture with him and two of her gay friends, so a tabloid said he was gay..

The brunette one took her dog to a dog show and they won, and then the dog was bred by several dogs at a dog park when she let her off leash and she was in heat..

Sorry I don't know their names.. I only watch occasionally

3. Well thank you!
That captured the show for me! I don't think the Russian is a good fit for Carrie, they'll be over soon. Miranda (redhead) should be living in Brooklyn, so it's good that she's learning to like it. Samantha is too much - her sexual drive is absolutely amazing! Charlotte wants to have a baby so bad, now her little dog is preggers? Oh boy!

9. Same Sex, Different City
With the sun setting on Sex in that City, you should tune into Showtimes "The L Word" (10:00 sunday) which bills itself as "Same Sex, different city"

It is a show about a group of lesbian friends but it has lots of humor, heterosexual activity, and sex.

I'm really enjoying it.

10. I've not seen it yet.
But I've seen ads for it. The women are almost all white, and very slim and beautiful. Is this representative of most lesbians? I'm guessing that the "lipstick lesbian" is more palatable for the viewing public. And what's with the hetero sex? I'll give it a try, but I'd like to know what DU's lesbian community thinks of it!

12. I like that show a lot too
Of course, like Sex in the City, the characters are pretty unrealistic, but then again it *is* TV. I certainly wouldn't want to watch people living my life ... I'd fall asleep from the boredom.

2. Let's see
A rumor came out that Smith was gay. Samantha was outraged at being thought a "fag-hag" so she arranged for a video to be distributed of her and Smith having hot sex., which quickly dispelled the previous rumor.

Carrie was disturbed because the Russian cancelled their night out where he was to meet her girlfriends, stating that he had to work. She and g/fs decided to surprise him at home instead. No, he wasn't caught inflagrante delicto with another woman, but he quite coldly told them basically he was busy and they should take a hike. She forgave him, because he told her how despondent he was about his new work.

Charlottes's doggie, "Elizabeth Taylor" won a prize in a major dog show despite the fact that ET had her period and was dripping droplets of blood all over C's ivory suede boots. Later ET was gang-banged by bunch of horny dogs in Central Park.

5. I thought the Smith/Samantha and Charlotte/dog
storylines were AWFUL! Why is Samantha so goddamned tacky with the video, why does she care what the rest of NYC thinks? How incredibly immature and insecure, when she supposedly is the one who struts and is proud of her sexuality (& supposedly doesn't care what others think?)! And both Charlotte and Harry were idiots to let a dog in heat off the leash in a park. The whole dog show story was stupid. Bad writing, no research, completely idiotic.

The Carrie/Aleksandr story and the Miranda/Steve/Brooklyn story were both good, though.

6. I don't know, I don't take that show very seriously
It's a few steps above being a cartoon.

Or else a delicious, insubstantial confection.

7. True, but if they're going to be ridiculous
it should be funny, not stupid... I mean, they're not the freaking Crank-Yankers on Comedy Central. It's always been about outrageous or reckless behavior, but they're all supposed to be relatively bright women. It is fluff, but I want my fluff consistent, dammit!

8. If you ever need a synopsis - brilliantly written too...
http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/

They have a recaplet right away and later a longer recap of the entire show...

lots of snarkiness too, this is the start of last night's recap.

"Something very strange happened this week on Sex & The City. For the first time? Carrie did not annoy me. And, she didn't wear anything really, really ugly. The clothes were all right, and there was a DOG SHOW, which upped the overall adorability to...well, above the earth."

11. It was one of the funniest episodes this season
Finally, I might add. Many of them have been downright sad and depressing this year.

13. you all forgot the phone message from BIG
Big left 3 message on Carrie's answering machine and Carrie deleted them.

And I like her with the Russian. I think he's very good for her.

22. I didn't like Big at first
but he grew on me.

Especially after I read that Chris Noth came out against the war in Iraq.

I'm rooting he comes to his senses and they get back together.

15. What I like about the Russian is that he plays no games with her.
Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 01:12 PM by bunnyj
I liked that he was very blunt about not having any more children. He could not have been more clear about his feelings, and I think she saw that and accepted it completely. I also liked when he was blunt with her about the possibility that Samantha could die. She was a little strange about refusing to recognize that possibility, although I understood her line of thinking regarding it.

But ultimately I think he's too remote for her, a little too "Russian" maybe. He may be teaching her things, and be good for an interlude, but I seriously doubt she'd be happy with him in the long term.

And I guess I'm spending WAY too much time wondering about what's right for these gals! :)

On edit - I forgot to mention Big. I didn't start watching the show till last year, so I missed out on most of the Big story. Do you think this is a good thing, that he's calling her?

16. When did Cynthia Nixon forget how to act?
My two female roommates are addicted to this show.

Nixon does the most unconvincing acting I've seen in a long time.

18. If Carrie doesn't keep the Russian,
can I have him? I've always had a closet lust for Baryshnikov. (OK, not all that closeted.)

Oh, and if you bring a bitch in heat to most dog shows, she's immediately disqualified. Too much disruption for the other dogs. (And anyone who knows ANYTHING about dogs would know better than to take a bitch in heat out of the house!)

20. I stood next to him once
it was in 1979 or 1980, I'd gone with my high school drama teacher to see Al Pacino in American Buffalo. Sometimes my teacher would take students into the city to see plays, and afterward try and get the star to talk to the kids. It worked once with Tom Conti.

So we're waiting outside Pacino's dressing room, and the guard announced Michael Cimino is here to see Al. I said to my teacher, hey, do you think Al Pacino is really going to want to talk to us after talking to Michael Cimino.

As we stood there debating, Barishnikov and a blond woman, who I later surmised may have been Jessica Lange, breeze by us in the hallway.

I just looked at my teacher and we both said, "Let's go"

21. I saw Pacino in American Buffalo when it came to Boston
I loved the play; thought he was great!

If that happened today, your teacher would probably get in serious trouble for bringing her students to see a play with 'such language' in it. LOL

I think it was the best episode so far this season (not too hard of a task, unfortunately).
