Funny story.
When I was 16 I went to boarding school for the summer. It was a special school for kids who'd been kicked outta normal summer school if you get my drift.

Many of them had learning disabilities. And one day in class our Newfie English teacher (ANd I don't know how anyone could give a Newfie a job teaching english) Had written sentences on the board and it was the whole circle the noun kinda BS.

ANyway she had a kid up there and told him to circle "Of" But because of her Newfie accent it sounded like she was saying "Off"

SO this poor kid with a learning disability was up there for about two minutes staring at a board and saying "But there is no OFF!" to the teacher before we all clicked in and started laughing. She gave us all a dirty look and said in a sarcastic mean-bitch way, "SORRY...OF."
And really pronounced of with the most perfect Ontarian accent.

Just remembered that story and it makes me laugh.

1. Whale oil beef hooked!
I had a Japanese teacher who had similar problems. She used to talk about her briefcase with the "fripping rid" all the time!

5. Wow
That brought back a flood of memories. My mom was a Newfie, and she used to say of/off. And "lather" for ladder. Thanks for the story. :)
