Anyone here planning to see "The Golden Compass?"
Edited on Mon Nov-05-07 12:00 AM by Archae
Seems the movie had the anti-religious themes watered down, but Bill Donohue, that loudmouthed bully from the Catholic League is still throwing a hissyfit about the film.

4. i dont know if the religious themes are watered down
I know a few years ago, the first director was fired because he wanted to eliminate *all* of the religious themes, but last I heard the new director was committed to keeping the spirit of the books intact.

But I could be wrong...

These are my favorite books so I hope they don't fuck it up :(

10. Definitely. Just finished reading the trilogy, loved it.
I know the movie can't be as good as the books, but I want to see what they do with the daemons and the armored bears. Also, I'm inclined to go just because it pissed off the Catholic League and that ass Donohue.

11. For sure!
I don't read books and don't follow the hype, so when I see it it will be all new to me. I will submit my mind to the screen and temporarly give up reality for the fantastic.

:hi:

16. Absolutely. My daughter and I already have a date night planned
We've both read the books and realize the movies won't be as good but that doesn't worry us too much. Even if it's a crap movie, it doesn't take away from the book's excellence.

19. I'm afraid they're going to fuck it up.
I really love the books, and I don't want my memory of them sullied.

But yeah, I'll go see it.

And yeah, the whole religious right protesting thing is ridiculous. The books aren't about defeating god, they're about defeating a Big Brother-type all powerful organization that is more political than religious.

21. Gotta see the armored bears
And I can't wait to check out the wheeled critters, although those are in the last book.

Bill Donohue can rant all he wants. I remember the Catholic "proscribed list" of films during the fifties/sixties. My Catholic friends claimed you'd automatically go to hell for watching any one of those movies. It just made them more attractive (and I'm already damned 20 times over).
