Can anyone recommend a good puppy chew toy?
I am going to be forced to leave Lucy (my new found pup) alone for 13 hours tomorrow. I need to find something to keep her occupied chew wise. I've got a good room to put her in but she seems to enjoy chewing on the linoleum floor. (oh well, floors are cheap-puppies are priceless)
Anything that will keep the girl occupied will do. I suppose I could throw a pair of my most expensive shoes in there with her but I prefer something designed for pups to chew on.

19. Kong is awesome, so is Nylabone although ours chewed the hell
out of the edge of a nylabone glow in the dark frisbee.

The Kong is indestructible and you can stuff a treat down in there and make the dog crazy trying to lick it out..peanut butter is the house favorite with our mutt

2. Seek out Nylabone Chew Rings and the Galileo products.
Both products are very captivating to almost every dog we've run through here. The Galileo comes in 3 sizes. Small, medium and large. The large is VERY big, and heavy. The middle size is best for medium sized dogs. Out pits take a long, long time to do real damage to them.

4. My dog ignores the kong
She seems to avoid anything made of rubber or latex: it must taste or smell bad to her. Try a cheap rubber toy to see how she reacts first before investing in a kong - they're pricey.

On the other hand, she can amuse herself for hours with those stuffed "fake fleece" squeaky toys. Some are sturdier than others. She's been known to disembowel the flimsy ones in less than five minutes, but she's still working on one that's over a year old. Ask the pet shop for one that's "terrier proof" (I don't know if this is an official term, but the folks there seem to know what I mean when I use it). As a bonus, if you carry it around for a few hours stuffed under your shirt it seems to absorb your odor, which may be comforting to a dog left alone. I found quite a few waistbands chewed out of clothes in the dirty laundry basket before I discovered that trick!

14. Doesn't work
I even tried stuffing it with tuna fish (which my dog adores) and it still got ignored. My dog really hates latex! She must be unusual, since she also couldn't care less about peanut butter, which deprives me of hours of enjoyment (watching dogs eat peanut butter is a hoot).

5. Have you seen those loofa toys?
My dog loves hers. She gets a new one about every three weeks because she ends up eating most of the batting.
Also, the KONG toys are great because you put a treat inside and they have to figure out how to get them out. GREAT!

6. Here's a sure winner
Get a Kong (mentioned above). Fill it with peanut butter, and put it in the freezer overnight. I used to work at a vet clinic/shelter and we called these "babysitters." :-)

7. Take 50 bucks, go to the pet store, and spend it all on different kinds of dog toys
I don't remember which toy worked for Bailey, but it got him to stop chewing on us for the most part. :o

12. A Wiggly-Giggly Ball and/or a Buster Cube
http://www.dogsupplies.com/store/mcart.php?ID=642
Wiggly-Giggly Ball - Chewable ball that makes a giggly noise when rolled (but makes the noise inconsistently so it holds the attention better than the average squeeky toy)

http://www.dogtoys.com/busterminicube.html
Buster Cube - This is great for dogs with separation anxiety. You put small amount of dry food kibble or other treats in the cude... the dog can smell the food in there but has to roll it around to make a treat pop out. Sometimes a treat pops out but sometimes it doesn't, so the dog will wrestle with it for ages trying to get a treat to come out.

These are the only toys I've ever found to really hold a dog's attention especially a dog that quickly becomes bored with the average toy.
