4. If I only had one book to pick...
...I would say Ann Coulter's Treason. If nothing else but to say, yes I support freedom of speech and thought, except when that speech or thought tells people that they must subscribe to a belief system or they are traitors. It is kind of a "Don't tolerate the intolerant" thing.

8. Nothing
I think if there is a book you want banned (even jokingly) you aren't really a friend of the first amendment.

The best way to fight bad ideas is to let them talk.

(I am pissed off when I see fellow liberals shout down conservatives. Let them speak and make enough rope to hang themselves. When you shout them down or try to silence their nutty ideas, you make them a victum and make us the bad guys).

9. Anything by Will Pitt
or Al Franken.

I work at a Catholic university. Trust me on this: banning a book means the students are going to go out read a copy cover to cover at the earliest opportunity.

19. Wouldn't That Be Cool? (And Sad At The Same Time.)
With so many other things to be concerned about, Rush Limbaugh would cherry-pick a yuk-yuk gag thread for political dissection.

Too hysterical!

And I put my money where my mouth is on a daily basis. Whether it's the Turner Diaries (hateful tome) or Barely Legal I will sell it. I may secretly be calling you an asshole for buying it, but it's your right. And no, if Ashcroft's vultures come to ask for sales records, we wouldn't give them.

21. No, no, no! Evil books are to be deconstructed, publicly ridiculed!
Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 08:04 AM by JCCyC
All the bigotry and stupidity must be displayed in broad daylight so people may see it for what it is! Yes, that includes Mein Kampf! They are books that have to be studied for the benefit of mankind.

That said, I'd me more comfortable if they were only sold with lots of scholar commentary footnotes.
