First off, the halftime show basically stunk to high heaven. Lightweight talents using up a few minutes of air time in poorly choreographed ego boosting insanity. I am usually not this cruel, but I was hoping that that ridiculous train would find it's way around those shoes, and a sure fire tumble would instill. Alas, I was to be disappointed.
Scantily clad men and women prancing around in an arena where everyone that is beyond row seven can see nothing but tiny little bodies that look as if they should be crushed before they procreate and infest the lower aspects of our homes; is nothing but eye candy for the cameras, (TV audience). I saw one guy wearing a "G-String" and what appeared to be womens hosiery from the '50's. Personally, I found that more disturbing than JJ's breast; simply because the camera spent more time on that guy than it did on JJ.
But what offended me more than anything else was "Kid Rock" coming out in a ragged flag, and singing about the virtues of being a proud American. That is one flag I would not have minded putting a match to.
Strangely enough, I really would not have cared if they came out naked, as long as they could sing something I could understand under the overbearing sound systems that were employed, to cover a remarkable lack of talent.
OK, there's my rant...in the grand scheme of things, it means nothing. But there is a slight sliver of a shadow that can be seen by those at the NFL and CBS. They were the ones that authorized this stuff. They wanted something 'spectacular', more than in previous years, and next year, they will demand something more. The area of concern rests squarely on their shoulders. Performers do what they are told to do; in this case, it was to do what they were known for, crumby lyrics with sexual overtones. They gave the crowd what they wanted.
I know this is redundant, but I feel that "Kid Rock" and the flag was truly in poor taste. I, and many others have great respect for the colors; and I am trying to maintain a respect for what those colors stand for during the bush administrations attacks on the Constitution. I have served under that flag, I have had fellow soldiers taken to their graves beneath those colors. Both my father, and stepfather fought in WWII under that flag, and both were carried to their graves under it. There were times when I would return to base camp and see that flag and feel safe and secure, knowing that what it stood for was still intact. I have defended the right of Americans to burn that flag in protest, (although I for one would not do that). I never fought for anyone to use it as a 'rag'. I grudgingly admit, he had a right to wear it as he did, but IMHO, it was degrading to me and those who have served this country in any capacity, from fireman or policeman, to social worker or soldier, sailor, airman or Marine. "Kid Rock" is a flash in the pan, but those colors have withstood the test of time because of those of us that have kept the flame of Liberty alive.
Thank you for letting me rant. If I have offended anyone, I apologize in advance. Janet Jacksons breasts mean nothing to me, but the denigration of OUR flag does. I wonder if Ashcroft would have placed that banner over JJ's chest?
O8) I :loveya: all
