2. Me as a zombie redneck...
Edited on Wed Oct-31-07 11:18 PM by primate1

The hat reads "SKYNRD RULES" and the shirt reads "GIT 'ER BRAINS." The pic is really bad because I was in a rush to hop in the shower and didn't care enough to take a good one, haha.

7. My neighborhood is in transition also
People with little kids don't really move in here; I had a record low TWO trick or treaters.
I used to do my house up with graveyards skulls, bone, spiders and webs and lots of sound effects and animatronics. Took about 30 hours. But just not worth it lately. :(

But I still dress up:

25. The pics of me came out blurry, but here's my sweetie in the costume I made her:

I was up all night sewing that dress; hand-cramp city!
Her broom is cinnamon twigs, so she left a magical trail
of happy scent all day.

That's a neighbor's cat; he thinks EVERY day is trick-or-treats!

28. I do Halloween up BIG...
well, as big as a small San Francisco house will allow, that is! :P

Halloween has been a problem in too much of my neighborhood. For almost ten years I was the only person on my entire block to decorate - it was incredibily depressing for me and the kids. There were so few houses doing it up over the city that car loads of kids would be brought from neighborhood to neighborhood to trick or treat. It was not like when I was a kid, when every house was lit up and only one or two fogies would keep their porch light off.

Finally a few other houses started to make an effort in the last few years and last night we actually had 10 houses lit up! That's still a fraction of the houses on my block, but a good start.

My new toy was a porch mat that is set off when you step on it -- it screams, and evil laughs, and says a spooky "welcome" -- it scared the crap out of the kids -- and a few of the adults with them! I also had this electronic mouse that squealed and whose eyes blinked red -- I put that in the candy dish and set it off when the kids went to reach for the candy.

The one pisser was my new luminarias -- I use them each year and love them, I've also never had a problem with them. I got a new group from Target that were supposed to be super safe and come with a special candle housing. I put them on a shelf on my porch, very stable and very safe (in the past!) Well, I open the door for a pair of trick of treaters, and one says, "Is that supposed to do that?" I look over at what she's looking at and see one of the new luminarias is completely engulfed in flames and threatening some other decorations! I think Target will be hearing from me.

So here's my house all lit up -- minus the luminarias, which got blown out after the earlier debacle:

And here is my very favorite decoration for this year (I live in SF, so I can do this sort of thing and not get in trouble):

I love Halloween. :loveya:
