Introducing "Sandy", newest addition to our family
Edited on Wed Oct-31-07 02:53 PM by WillBowden
Since Misty had to be put to sleep Bailey (our youngest dog) has been bereft. He keeps wandering around looking for her, laying down in her spots, etc. It was heartbreaking to see him seeming so lost. Paul and I talked about it and decided (after consulting with a couple friends) that the best thing to do would be to get another dog. (And thank you to MonkeyFunk for some sage advice.)

We went to the Humane Society and looked at one dog that was very cute, but very aggressive and we were afraid how she'd be with the cats. Then another of the shelter volunteers mentioned that we might like to see Sandy, a "purple" dog. This means she's VERY laidback and passive. We did and she was. We thought she would be a perfect companion for Bailey. (On edit: She's a Shepherd-Lab mix.)

But...(you knew there was one...) Paul and I aren't overly thrilled with the name Sandy. It's just not all that "roll off the tongue" type name for us.

Here's some pictures of her. Let me know what you think and give me some suggestions on a name, please.

5. Cassie - short for Cassandra
:-). She's gorgeous Will.

My sympathy to you and Paul on the loss of Misty (I must have missed your thread). I hope the memories of the good times will help ease the sadness of the last few days.

6. She's gorgeous!
As to the name, I don't have any ideas. What I usually do when I get a new pet is to give it a little time, and see how the animal acts. In that way, they kind of suggest a name to me. You two might want to try that.

14. I think Sandy is a nice name....
My dad's childhood dog's name was Sandy. It's one of those names that works well for both a dog and human.

(My childhood dog's name was Sarah, and no, we didn't pick that, but she was 5 by the time we got her so we couldn't really change it.)

Sandy, or whatever you end up calling her, is a beaut! Enjoy!

15. She's a pretty and sweet looking girl!
How is she fitting in with Bailey and the cats?

"Miel or Mel" (Honey in French and Portuguese).
"Renée" (I translated "sandy" in Babelfish and it's arénacé in French)
"Shelly" a combo of Shep & Lab

Our SPCA dog was "Freckles"; we call her Sally Freckles occasionally but mostly just Sally.

18. She's very mellow
Likes to lay around. If you hand her a treat she just licks it and looks at you until you lay it down. If one of the other dogs steal it...oh well. She's sweet.

25. Ah yes...
My Bailey is a springer/golden retriever mix. At least, that's the theory... he looks like a big fat shaggy springer and the owners of his mom say the only unneutered male dog in the 'hood is a golden, so...

31. So I've heard from several people...
The problem is that she doesn't do much. Comes over for some rubs now and then and then lays back down. Never had a dog like her before. She's almost too mellow. The cats come walking over and she lays down in the submissive posture before they even get there.
