Here is what she looked like sitting next to my great great great great great gram gram.

(I found her grave as well)
I made a pilgrimage to a small township in Pennsylvania last friday during my visit to Scranton PA

1. How exciting!
My younger sister has done our family's geneology, visiting numerous cemetaries in KY, TN, IL, VA, and MO. Very exciting indeed.

3. Wow! Incredibly cool!
And that is an incredible picture! What a wonderful and valuable thing to have! I love finding such things, though have very few, except from my Dutch grandmother, whose family arrived here back in the 1600s, since my Irish and Polish ancestors arrived here "on the last boat," as my mother says...:-(

I am also very much interested in family history and genealogy, thanks to my grandmother who told me stories about the family and took me to visit cemeteries since I was very young. My aunt and I slogged through years of debris and fallen trees to reach an abandoned cemetery where many of my ancestors were buried, mostly from the 1700s. It was very sad, stones fallen down and buried, lives forgotten. ;(

You should check out the Ancestry/Genealogy group here on DU, if you haven't, started by Cooley Hurd and me. There are some very knowledgeable folks there who could help you with your research...:hi:

5. Terrific! I hoped that you'd be interested...
There are a lot of us on DU who are very interested in this, love sharing discoveries, tips and information. We started this group back in 2005 and it's really taken off, even though not everybody's aware of us...;) We'd love to have you with us!:hi:

20. Welcome! And I am very impressed! You're obviously very good at this...
I'm very fortunate, at least with my grandmother's family, since her aunt published a book, which I have a copy of, that traces her family back to the 1600s, when the first Dutch ancestor came here, and they haven't traveled that far...:-)

The only thing is that this was in 1972, so a lot of us are missing... My cousin, who's much better at this than I am, and I have talked about updating it, but he moved halfway across the country a couple of years ago, so it's much more difficult for him now, even with the internet, since a lot of genealogy research is footwork, visiting cemeteries and libraries, and all, as you know...

6. That is too cool, GoPsUx!
Thanks for sharing that.

Both sides of my family have some genealogy done, and one side has a whole society to join.

I'm glad you got a chance to make some family connections while on your trip.

Welcome home!

16. One of the largest libraries dedicated to genealogy
is in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. It's not near as far from where you are, and I believe they are second only to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.

It's fun to research the family tree. :)

early 1620's. We migrated to the US in the 1730's. It appears it was in 1738 to Philadelphia, settling in Berks County PA.

38. God...how did you find the emigration?
I'm trying to find our "Ancestor Zero" (the first ancestor to leave the old country), and I'm researching Schmidts in Northampton County, PA.

I've checked just about every "Pennsylvania Dutch" book I find, but it's like needles and haystacks.
