Why are there fences around cemeteries?
Because people are dying to get in. (Heard from my nephew.)

1. I always assumed it was just in case. Y'know, zombies.
They might be able to climb out of the grave, but they're not agile enough to handle fences and not smart enough to open gates.

5. With all due respect, that is NOT the real answer.
I learned to drive a standard, under the watchful tutelage of my father, in cemeteries. He confided to me at that time that the reason there are fences around cemeteries "is so that you don't veer onto a public access road and kill any living people."

7. Because, once upon a time, people believed that...
...if the wrong species of animals urinated there, it could "de-sanctify" the ground. Dogs, mainly.

8. I would have thought that the real answer
was to keep out vandals and maybe grave robbers. I like the zombies answer, though. :)

9. They don't want easy access for people who need to pee.
Such people ought do what dogs do; dig a hole underneath the fence, crawl through, then find the perfect gravestone and whiz away.

11. There is not a fence big enough or strong enough
...to keep me from dancing on Bush & Cheney's grave one fine day. :headbang:
