What is Memphis like to live in?
We've ruled out New Orleans due to tropical weather.
We're musicians looking to relocate within a year.
No more of this sub-zero windchill energy sucking cold winter.
We don't mind all 4 seasons, just want mild winter.
Memphis is another city that interests us, maybe Nashville too.
Who has lived there?

1. My son lives there. If they could ever get a handle on the crime
rate, it would be a good place to live. I think it is an interesting place.

2. High-crime and/or reactionary RW police force
not a factor in today's world. We need to be close to a lot of musician's and studios and clubs and we've ruled out California and Florida, and Texas- as well as New Orleans.

What are the winter's like in Memphis?

3. Austin? Maybe?
This place is Nirvana for musicians. Mild winters, although summers can be a tad warm...

5. Austin is a special city dear to US all
they are blessed with a great club and artist scene-but my wife and I have ruled out the State of Texas entirely.

6. Yeah...I know what you mean.
I'd like to leave, but I need one of those pesky job things or at least a good offer.

I think I'm stuck here for the time being.

4. I live in Memphis
Winter is pretty mild here. We've had a couple flurries this year, but no ice, and nothing stuck. You can usually count on about one bad winter weather incident a year that shuts the city down, but that hasn't happened this year. I think Nashville maybe a little colder due to a higher elevation.

Memphis is okay, but I moved from the Baltimore/DC area, so by comparison, it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot do do here. But, most of the people I know here seem to really like it. There's a good theater scene here; the Zoo is nice, and Downtown is being revamped, so there's more to do and see than even when I first moved here. Cost of living is also cheaper than most places I've lived, and there's no state income tax here (sales taxes are high, though).
