http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=7069469&mesg_id=7069469I just spoke to my cousin (19 weeks pregnant with twin girls - water broke)
She is still doing okay, she just had another ultrasound and the amniotic fluid levels in baby B look great, Baby A had the rupture, the levels are down 7cm, but still looking good. The Doc told her that 75% of the time, women develop and infection and/or go into labor within 72 hours. She will be there tomorrow around 11:00 a.m. So, her odds are getting better all the time.
Thank you to everyone who sent positive thoughts, prayers etc. please keep them coming.
This is a very difficult time for her, and I don't want to turn it into a political issue, but since I am on DU, I know you all will understand and let me share these thoughts.
When her employer found out she was pregnant, they fired her (of course, they said it was for job performance). Anyway, she lost her health insurance and went on Medicaid. She had been paying her deductibles and co-pays under that insurance for her and her son. (Her and the father have been together for 5+ years, but he has been self-employed and does not have insurance for himself or the children) Also, the doctor has warned her that if he feels her life is at risk, she will be THE priority if things get too bad. So, that brings me to 2 issues. One, I am so glad we live in a country that gives her the CHOICE to continue with this pregnancy (she is not being forced to terminate and will not be forced to sacrifice her life because the State thinks it can make a better decision than her and her doctor.) and is putting her life as the priority. (If infection develops and gets bad, the only solution may be to deliver even tho the twins are not at a viable stage). Also, I am so glad that she even has the option because if she had no medical coverage, I'm not sure how charitable the hospital would be in her treatment. She will be on bed rest, need frequent ultrasounds, etc.
