I only wish someone would remove her Oscar acceptance speech that is forever seared in my mind... I was happy for her that she won. However, I can't help but think that her "taking on the mantle of being 'THE model of the Struggle,'" while ignoring other African American Actors who came before her (e.g., Hattie McDaniels, the first African American Best Suporting Actress) during that hyperemotional speech that went on and on and on-- did not contrast well with the consummate professional approach taken by best actor winner, Denzel Washington.... Lest anyone misunderstand, I think acknowledging those actors who came before is wonderful. But, to hold oneself up as the ultimate "break-through" for your entire race, smacks a bit of exaggerated self-importance, given the accomplishment of these others who preceded her and who succeeded despite intolerable conditions and overt racism during their time.
Just my impression.... I do think she is an incredibly beautiful woman, however, and a reasonably talented actress in the right role (as do many of our male colleagues, apparently).
Ok, I'm done venting....LOL Enjoy oggling Halle as Catwoman, now!
