Poll question: Is it possible for Vampires to be accepted?
Could you accept it if a good friend came out of the coffin? (this term is used by Vampires)

26. In a roundabout way, no.
People who work the night shift are in a position of being a secondary citizen. The world is not set up for people who are awake during the night and not the day. Vampires would fall into that group.

What happens when a vampire needs to go to the bank? The bank isn't open when a vampire is free to walk around outside. Go shopping? Most stores are closed.

I've seen and done more REAL things than any of your
fantasy-role-playing "vampire" friends are likely to
have imagined.

I am entirely familiar with the modern web-based "vampire"
community. :eyes: Meanwhile, here in the real world, I have
friends and acquaintances who have survived every form
of REAL oppression known to mankind; everything from the
"soft bigotry of low expectations" to fucking 1944 DACHAU.

And for you to claim that some childish fantasy-indulgers
qualify as an "oppressed group" is to PISS on the life
of every REAL person who has ever experienced REAL oppression.

FUCK that noise, child. Fuck it in the HEART.

You can stick your "vampires" where the sun don't shine.

C'mon now - unless you have seriously redefined the word "vampire," made friends with a talking South American bat, or discovered the magical pixie dust that makes reality out of fiction, you are dealing with someone who has trouble leaving the land of make-believe in his/her head.

Your comparison of "coming out" as a vampire to "coming out" as a homosexual is offensive to reality-based society, and I'm sure doubly so to the homosexual community slandered by your indefensible assertion that they are the same as some lonely freak with an active fantasy life and a tenuous grasp on reality.

47. People have persecuted people that are "Vampires" for centuries!
The only different between Vampires and those "alternative" Lifestyle like wiccan, pagan, and homosexuality is that the others have been accepted! Homosexuals are the most accepted due to their constant fight for equality! It is time for a major wake up for everyone that if you can accept some with different ways then you should accept them all. As for "a tenuous grasp on reality", there are Doctors, lawyers, business people, all kinds that are Vampires. They can not be what they are safely with the thinking that you have expressed!

55. So is people with Vampire Jokes!
Think of all the times people use to ( and many still do) make jokes about anything to do with any pagan (Wicca included)belief. it was a hard road to get to where you are now. Sure many still make jokes and ridicule, but you still get treated with respect in certain circles. Vampires get laughed at, told their sick, and (my personal favorite) told to grow up!
Maybe some people need to double check themselves when they tell people how open minded and understanding they are!!!

52. oh dear hobgoblined crispychrist... where to start?
1. Homosexuality is not a "lifestyle." I'll leave it to others more expert on their own sexual orientation to expand on that truth.
2. Wicca is not a "lifestyle." It is a religion/religious belief, not entirely incomparable to Christianity. A person's lifestyle may reflect their religious faith, be it wiccan or christian or FSMism. But religion and lifestyle are not interchangeable terms.
3. Homosexuality is not, by and large, accepted in American society. Witness "defense of marriage" nonsense. Shameful, but true for the time being. The constant fight you mention will change that over time.
4. Wicca and other pagan religions are not, by and large, accepted in American society. When was the last time, for example, you saw Congress opened with a wiccan prayer?
5. Homosexuals and Wiccans actually exist. If you prick them, they bleed, and all that. Vampires do not exist. Therefore you cannot prick them to see if they bleed.
6. There are no doctors, lawyers, business people, or any other kinds of people that are vampires. Saying it is so does not make it so. There may be people in each of those categories who think they are vampires, or like to pretend they are vampires, but thinking it is so or pretending it is so, alas, does not make it so.
7. Safety of vampires is a nonissue, much like prevention of the extinction of unicorns, or voting rights for left-handed leprechauns. People who openly claim to be vampires may suffer scorn, ridicule, or involuntary hospitalization, depending upon the severity of their delusions.

66. I'm not talking about gamers!
I am talking about regular people with 9 to 5 jobs. I am talking about people that look and act just like you and me! Not the Masquerader players. but regular people that drink blood or absorbers the excess energy put off by others. People that goes to the beach to get tans, eat garlic and can take holy communion. But I guess that you are so terrified that you are not the only group ( if what I am picking up from some of your other post are true. Your wiccan, right) that may echo that which most would put in the category of the macabre!
Another thing, how would you like it if some one said to "Have fun jumping up and down on your broomstick pretending you can fly!" I'm guessing not that much!!!

69. Can give us proof that
these people need to metabolize blood in order to survive, or can prove and demonstrate the existence of this "excess energy" that psi vampires siphon off and require for survival? Can you even begin to explain the physiological processes that differ between vampires and "normal" humans? Oh, wait, you just said that these *are* regular, normal folks. Who just happen to require blood or excess energy for survival.

Again, get over yourselves.

Have you talk with anyone with any knowledge in the study of? I'm guessing that you are so full of yourself that you can not break out of your little cocoon to even goggle the topic!!!

Seriously, fucking grow up.

I am done with you.

You have insulted a few groups here today with your bullshit.

Have fun in your world of delusion.

76. Well, I think I am talking to one right now
And I ain't too impressed. For one thing, do you really think an excess of punctuation is going to help convince me that vampires are sincere folks who just want to be understood? for another, I see you avoided my questions completely.

I think I'm with Marrah at this point. I'm done. Go roll up a wizard next time - maybe you can catch the Potter bandwagon.

ps: How do I goggle a topic? Is that like Boggle?

To say I am scared that my faith WON'T be the only group associated with the Macabre tells me what a fucking TOOL you truly are.

My faith is not Macabre, nor do we wish to be seen as such. If your friends and you get off on living some fake "dark and evil" life so be it. Just leave my NON-VIOLENT, NON MACABRE, NON-EVIL religion out of it.

Get a fucking clue before you open your damn mouth.

There is nothing dark or Macabre about Wicca except in your own fucked up mind.

The Mods can delete this if they wish, But I will stand up when bullshit and lies are spoken about my religion.

81. Short answer: Sure, why not.
Long answer: None of my good friends believe in vampires being real, and if they "came out," they would be totally bullshitting me. If they somehow weren't, and I'd be suspicious of it the whole time, it would mean they needed psychological help (which we all do anyway, but I mean relatively so). Or, it could be they were trying to get laid by someone who really did believe in real vampires, but, then, they would probably admit as much to me, so let's go with the first thing.

I don't care if people believe in vampires. I don't care if people believe they are vampires. At least they're more honest about being parasitic than, say, insurance companies. But it would take a whole lot (a whoooooooooole lot) of convincing to get me to accept that someone who seriously believes they are a vampire isn't simply escapist and/or mentally ill. And that doesn't mean I wouldn't be willing to play along, either, if I thought it might be fun and generally harmless.

83. Some of my best friends are vampires
(No, really.)

Will they ever be accepted by the mainstream? Fuck no, because the mainstream is just that terrified of anything different. Hell, Oprah did a show featuring a polyamorous couple a few weeks ago and the sheer level of hysteria and vitriol directed at them on her message board scared the shit out of me (and I'm fairly jaded when it comes to "Muggle" fear and hatred of the out-of-the-ordinary). People are scared shitless of things they don't understand, even when it comes to something as mundane as love and relationships.

Then again, I'm otherkin, so

You've piqued my curiosity though. I've the term otherkin and gotten a few random bits of definitions here and there, but don't really know much about it. Any way you could explain it in a way I could understand, or would I just have to be there?

I only use the label as shorthand, because it's the closest way of explaining myself.

I'll PM you (I don't really like talking about it in "public"--it sounds batshit insane).

I tend to be wary of people, no matter what subculture they count themselves a part of, who run around flaunting their shit and then crying persecution when the other shoe inevitably drops. It doesn't matter if it's therions, vampires, 'kin, occultists of any and all stripes--at some point, you need to have a certain level of self-awareness to KNOW that the things you take for granted as normal parts of your existence are going to sound insane to anyone who hasn't experienced them. There are things I don't discuss with anyone except my chosen family, and there are things I don't even discuss with them.

Unfortunately there's an awful lot of socially retarded folks in said subcultures running around putting their crazy on display for the world to see, and inviting ridicule on whole communities in their quest to be special, unique snowflakes. The attention-seeking poseurs are what fuck it up for everyone else.

There's a reason "To Keep Silent" is part of the Pyramid, and it isn't just about diluting a working of its power. Mundanes will not understand things like vampirism, soulbonding, etc. Ever. Most have trouble with basic concepts like reincarnation. Esoteric concepts that end up filtering into the mainstream have to be watered down so they're palatable (see: The Secret/Law of Attraction, which is nothing but Sympathetic Magick for Dummies). Expecting them to accept these things is silly. Being surprised when they mock you is equally silly.

Also, I've learned that "like-minded" folks really aren't as like-minded as the claim to be, ultimately. Inevitably there comes a time when the eccentric are thrown under the bus as they scream to the mainstream world, "REALLY, THERE'S NO NEED TO HATE US, WE'RE JUST LIKE YOU!"

I'm cynical, though.

You are either:

A) Kidding, or

B) Unbearably stupid.

In either case I cannot think of any useful response. I am only posting because I have a rule that any thread which literally drops my jaw gets an automatic response.

Sorry. I want to be nice to you, it's my default position, but if you expect this nonsense to be taken seriously you really should let someone else control your finances.

seeing as how vampires don't exist.

Your friends who like to pretend they're vampires, however, should go back to the Island of Misfit Toys and leave people with REAL problems alone.
