...the painting. By removing the artist's intentionality and any overt or subtle technique or artifice, the relationship between the work of art and reality itself becomes explicit and direct. Music of the spheres, baby!

Of course, Pollock himself intentionally chose the colors, so there was still a level of "art" to the paintings. He also cropped the final pictures from larger original canvasses, so there is an element of ex-post-facto composition: yet more "art". Choosing the colors at random and just hanging the original canvas would perhaps have been a more honest approach (but much less aesthetically appealing.)

4. It's BALANCED. I really don't like Pollock's work but I had to dig...
...and find out why at least some people find his work so intriguing.
