The boarding kennel where I always boarded my dog has closed.
All of a sudden. She loved going there. I'm blown away. Now I have to find a new place. For several reasons, I chose this one over all the others in the area.

How will I explain this to the beagle?

1. That is a bummer...

Nothing like a good kennel (or dog sitter). Good luck
in finding a new one. I hate leaving our hounds in a kennel.
They just don't do well. Perhaps beagles adjust better than
borzois. p

2. That is a bad thing.
I found a kennel that seems to be comfortable for my five guys. Indoor/outdoor runs and it is run by a lady who LOVES animals. She even lets her little boy play with the guests. Last time I picked them up Curly, who is VERY shy and will run away if he sees a human other than me, was sitting calmly next to the kid licking his face. As we were pulling out in my truck my old dog "Buddy" jumped out of the window followed by Larry. They never acted like they wanted to stay at any other kennel.
I hope you find another great place for your girl!

5. My Grandmother took her schnauzer
to her new vet to be boarded. She thought they did boarding for some reason but they don't. The vet didn't have the heart to turn my Grandmother and dog away so he went ahead and took the pup in for a week. His house is on the same property as the vet's office so the vet just took the dog home with him. Heidi had a lot of fun playing with the vet's four dogs at the house. Isn't that cute?

6. Yep, it's good to find a place they like.
The beagle would get all excited when we turned down the road where this kennel is located. It was comforting to know she liked it. It's closed quite suddenly, and I'm kind of saddened by it.

Even the phone is disconnected. It's caused quite the stir in the dog community here, because it was clean, reasonably priced, flexible about arrangements, well thought of. There's really a shortage of kennels around here, and real worry about the holidays among that kennel's regulars.

I think what happened---because the owner told me she was worried about this--is that in the course of a nasty divorce, the property was divided between the two parties, and she couldn't buy out her ex. She really was a good soul. When I boarded my dog there at the time of my mother's death, the owner wouldn't take any money. She said I should think of it as her way of sending flowers.

I feel really bad about this on several levels. But the practical concern is where I'll board the beagle next time I need to. She's pretty easy to please, but I want to find a good place.

4. One way to exlain it...
...is to board her there, but visit a few times a day, rewarding her with treats. If you want to ease her into new arrangements, be there for her.
