It is hot enough without having to wear all that protective gear.

The plume of smoke has shifted back to its original position, but, frankly, there is not much fuel left to burn there, so we will be able to stay put.

Meanwhile, our streets and front yards are littered with ash, parts of palm trees that have not sustained the constant winds, other tree branches, and one of our neighbors' garbage (he forgot to get his can out in time).

I got the gloves on and picked up the trash. I am going to let the organic stuff (palm fronds, tree branches, etc. stay, since the street sweeper comes this week anyway).

I do not think I will get a decent night's sleep until this is all over.

My husband, who has been through this a few times, has been very good helping me through this. But he is not the one losing sleep over it either.

I know, I have probably taken way too much of this on, but I just do not know how not to.

It rained a little a few days ago, but not nearly enough. It's been spitting on us today, off and on. What we need is a couple of weeks of steady drizzle...
