I need emotional reinforcement regarding Fiona . . .
she has begun to take those mysterious 'cat vacations' and i can't find her anywhere in the house. she was absent for a couple of hours - showed up when someone came to the door and now she's absent again ......

i really thought the first time i had lost her - she ran away or something.

good grief -

i really didn't know that kitty-parenting was going to be so tough.

:spank:

1. I used to have cats that liked to hide out in a suspended ceiling.
That suspended ceiling was over my bed in the basement, and on more than one occasion they brought the tile down on me while I was sleeping.

(I don't recommend the experience.)

Kitty is probably exploring. Does she come running at the sound of the can opener or something?

2. When I first got my kitties
They would hide behind the washer and dryer. I could get them out by moving a toy about...See if you can find a toy that's noisy and she likes that will attract her from wherever she is hiding....

3. Kitties go on vacation
When we can't find Morrissey, he's usually behind the couch in the game room or under the bed. Monty is usually under the bed or on a dining room chair. Sunny hasn't hidden yet, so I don't know where his hiding places will be. I wonder if she's hiding somewhere in the laundry room or in your office?

4. This is normal
Sometimes they like to take long uninterrupted naps and will hide so they won't be bothered. She'll turn up! :-)

6. It's a cat thing. They are uniquely able to find portals into other universes.

And sometimes they slip through those portals and you can't find them anywhere, no matter how hard you look. And then all of a sudden they will appear right at your feet, wanting dinner, with this "What!?" expression on their little furry face.

7. This is absolutely true
I think they may also be time travelers. I had one materialize on the back of the couch once, lean over and steal the cheese out of my sandwich as I was about to take a bite. I will swear until my dying day that that cat was NOT on the couch or even in the room before I lifted the sandwich to my mouth.

9. LOL
My sister in law lost a hot dog once to a flying cat so anything is possible. They are very, very tricky creatures these felines!

11. The other magical thing they do,
Edited on Tue Oct-23-07 09:48 PM by ocelot
is, once you've gone to bed and turned out the light and started to fall asleep with the cat snuggled up next to you, is expand to the approximate size of a water buffalo. As a result you can't move or turn over, and you end up hanging halfway off the edge of the bed while the gigantic cat occupies the rest of it. But as soon as you wake up the cat instantly returns to his normal size.

This might have something to do with their universe-hopping habits, but I'm not sure.

Give her time.

10. I had a cat who could hide in the pages of a book
Cats are bad by nature. Don't worry to much - they like their privacy (and making us worry).

14. You'll be fine
Do be sure to watch when you leave the house so that she won't slip into the garage or out the front door (and deck door). With Morrissey's paper fetish, I can rattle paper and/or say, "PAPER!" and he invariably comes out of hiding. You just have to figure out where her hidey-holes are so you won't worry next time.

You and this kitty need each other!!!!

15. My cats can walk transport themselves outside
without me letting them out. They're either walking through walls or hypnotizing me.
