It's funny.
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 09:51 PM by WilliamPitt
Imagine we had three posters on DU named 'Dean,' 'Kerry' and 'Clark.'

In a thread, 'Dean' calls 'Kerry' and 'Clark' Republicans.

Someone would surely hit alert, and the post would get deleted as a personal attack per DU regulations. 'Dean' would get a warning from the Admins and be unable to post until he promised to follow the rules.

Just struck me funny.

home state that indicates he is more moderate than either, and then Dean would go to Ask the Administrators and complain that Clark and Kerry were piling up on him and personally attacking him and mods were unfairly favoring Kerry and Clark.

But I think Kerry's dirty campaigning is even worse. As for Clark, I think that Dean should be quiet and let him run his own campaign. As a Dean supporter, I don't like everything he says. I just like more of it than any of the other candidates.

21. "Jumped the shark"
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 10:29 PM by WilliamPitt
:)

Surprisingly, that is the very first time I've seen that term used in this forum.

In the case of the scream, it seems pretty clear that the shark jumped him, and proceeded to bite the shit out of him. Rarely have I seen the media do so rapid and efficient a judo-chop takedown on a national candidate. That was like wham and splatter. I don't blame Dean supporters one bit for being wildly frustrated and pissed about that.

It's scary stuff, when you think about it. The Democratic candidate, whomever it may be, is going to be walking the razor's edge from now to November. They took Dean down in a day. None of the candidates are immune to that kind of action.

Similarily to one pointing out that a poster with a similar nickname who is behving evilly posts at Free Republic. Not calling said poster a freeper directly, but making the insinuation. Is this against the rules? I don't think so, as long as the insinuation is factual. And in Kerry's case it is.

Why yes there is, it is rule #4

4. You may not start a new discussion thread in order to continue a current or recent flame war from another thread. The moderators have the authority to lock similar threads in order to contain flaming on a particular topic to only one thread at a time.

33. Why is it that...
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 11:25 PM by MarkTwain
... it seems as if those allied with Doctor Dean can not just "go with the flow"? Why is it that I get the feeling here, after the last two months, that whenever candidate Dean is fairly criticized or challenged, or his supporters perceive their feelings to be hurt, they run to hit the alert button?

Maybe the reminder "like father like son" applies? After all, Doctor Dean set the pattern a few months ago when he, unable to stand the heat in the kitchen, petitioned the chef, Mr. McAuliffe, to chastise the rest of the kitchen help who were "picking on him."

It's also interesting that Doctor Dean apparently does not find, that now that he is deconstructing so dramatically, the principles he criticized McAuliffe for not imposing are principles to which he apparently can no longer adhere, himself. Can anyone spell hypocrite?

Damn. If he can't take it at this stage and reacts in the bizarre, politically immature, and strategically impotent ways we have seen, Karl Rove will not have to break a sweat in the general should Doctor Dean become the nominee.

I'm glad that Will posted this thread because, frankly, his thesis is a good one and it would have become buried in the other threads specific to this topic since the reaction here has been so overwhelming in the rush to post "not again Howard" that the reply counts are staggering in those other threads. Think about that.

38. Just A Hunch
But methinks Dean has rarely been *fairly* criticized in DU. Without naming names, recently I saw on another popular (although with nowhere near the membership of DU) liberal board where a poster started a thread wherein he spoke of having some second thoughts about the good doctor, and he specified what those doubts were.

Instead of being greeted to insults by Dean's supporters and detractors, instead of being congratulated on his good sense by said detractors, all of the replies contained thoughtful discussion by mature individuals who weren't looking to score points on anyone. Something like that has *never* happened on DU.

specifically this section:

Someone would surely hit alert, and the post would get deleted as a personal attack per DU regulations. 'Dean' would get a warning from the Admins and be unable to post until he promised to follow the rules.

The OP brought up the alert button, implying that Dean would be the one who received an admin warning.

Trust that I didn't alert.

I merely commented on the tendencies of those who tend to critique Dean.

I am officially off the record regarding the candidate who seems to react in bizarre, politically immature, and strategically impotent ways. Until someone asks me of course.
