Watching "Sweet Sixteen" by Ken Loach....I'm dreading the end.
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 08:16 PM by JanMichael
Short description: 15 year old main character (Very likable and not a drug user. Non-violent personality but getting drawn into the Explotive Class) turns to heroin dealing to support his mother (Just released from prison), his sister, and her 3 year old son. Even gets a nice new flat for mum and sis. EDIT: "Dad" is a miserable fucking excuse for a "human" being, same for gramps.

Needless to say he's got a very good business acumen that many DU'ers would probably commend. Boot straps if you will.

My prediction for the end of the film? Someone will die. Fabulous....

1. Yep. He stabbed his "dad".
Well that's just grand.

Good movie though if you like that sort of drama.

3. Ken Loach movies are never fun
They're good, but usually depressing..."Ladybird, Ladybird", "Bread and Roses"...

4. I dig depressing! It fires me up.
It shakes my natural ambivalence up and forces me to action. I LOVE "depressing" endings, why? Because simple, sweet, predictable, "nice", crap annoys me.

Ok. I'm "different"...

Please don't say "Special" though...That's just not nice...

5. Have you seen "the Navigators" yet?
Loved it. Took Blair's dimantling of a Public resource and tore him a new one. No invites to tea with the queen for Kenny boy!

6. No, I haven't!
I love downer endings, too! Two of my top five movies this year were "21 Grams" and "House of Sand and Fog", both of which were very down. Leaving the theatre was like a funeral procession in both. Powerful films, both.

12. "House of Sand & Fog"?
I'll definately look that one up. So you love the downer ending too? Thank GAWD there's another smasher of rose coloured glasses! OK...That's misleading, my Sarasota "Freethought Forum" comrades are pretty much "reality" movie fans, not sparkles needed with them.

Thanks!

PS~ Ever rent, "Oranges Aren't the Only Fruit"?

Watch it if you can, it's the ultimate "Oh NO that can't be happening" movie!
