Yes, Elvis is safe and home.
Since I have the privilege to see the garden from my office desk, I noticed a black cat going around there I haven't seen before. He was mostly crouching and hid behind a stone, but wasn't running away when Heidi and I approached him.

He then went through the hedge on the rural street here (which isn't as rural anymore since new house buildings have begun), and of course, it was the time everyone started work again so there were a few cars going around. The cat didn't seem to be able to recognize what was going on, but he was scared and hid then behind my sisters car. I had a closer look at him and noticed that he rather went with the sounds I made instead of vision - he was blind or almost blind, scared and obviously a house cat.

I could touch him, and my sister called the animal protection while Heidi brought me the awkward 'cat-taxi' I put him in. So we were waiting for the animal protection to come, but they called my sister back and said that there was a black cat missing in our town and gave her the number of a woman.

To make it short: He is blind and escaped somehow, wandering around for five days, while his owner desperately looked for him. She quite tried to hold back tears when she came and greeted her cat, and that's when we got to know his name: Elvis.

So, Elvis has left our building and is home safe. ;) Sorry for the pic, he's out of focus.

4. Elvis' "frau" had been out late every night for the past four nights,
searching with a flashlight along the creek across the road from us and calling his name. And all that time, our Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger had been "stalking" Elvis in our garden between 2 and 4:30 a.m. every morning. (We figured this out because we no longer have any "stranger" or wild cats in our neighborhood, so when Ginger and another cat tangle, you can hear the "Roooooooooow" for miles. :(

We're so happy that Elvis is back home with his family. He was sooooooooooooo happy to see his "frau" when she came to get him. But it was tooooooo funny when she saw him and exclaimed, "ELVI!!!!!!!" :)

7. That puts a smile on my face.
Reminds me of a friend who named her black chow-chow Tina Turner. :)

Perhaps it's all the places they marked? ;)

What a beautiful story!

You and Heidi are terrific people!

Saving that little cat when so many would have just shooed him out of the yard...

Elvis is one lucky cat!

And his owner is one very happy and relieved woman!

Good for you both!

:yourock:

On edit: Forgot to say...I love the pic!

3. Of course, I was crying a bit as Elvis left our home,
but I'm soooooooooooooo glad he's back with his "frau." I know how distraught I am when Ginger's away for even a few hours, not to mention if he were blind like Elvis and away for five days. Long live Elvis: beautiful, loving, blind, pre-Halloween black kitty who graced our home for a few hours. :loveya:

 PEGGY! :grouphug:

P.S. On Monday, I will send Elvis and his "frau" some Almo Nature organic chicken cat food. I'm stocked up, since we'll soon be sending a care package to huskerlaw's little Kyra and family. :)

11. It was luck that the animal protection has a list
if someone calls in and reports a missing animal. But he is chipped, too, so his stay at the animal shelter would have been short. Glad that has been avoided. :)

5. Awwwwww
That story just made me cry! I don't know what I would do if one of my cats disappeared for 5 days, let alone if one of them was blind.

That poor lost and scared baby. He's lucky that he wandered into your backyard.

You and Heidi are good people.

10. Since I stocked up on Almo Nature for Ginger, Kyra, Riley and Spencer,
we have plenty of organic chicken breast and Atlantic tuna, so we can send some tomorrow morning to Elvis, now that he's returned home. :loveya:

I could bear to think of how freaked out I'd be if Gingi wandered away. (We've been there, lemme tell ya. His spring foray into the community garden recycling Dumpster was HORRIBLE.)

14. Oh yay!
I'm sure he will appreciate it...as will my babies!

I mailed Ginger's toy on Monday. Hopefully you'll get it sometime in the next few days. :D

Riley has gotten out a few times, but he gets to the end of the sidewalk, where the grass starts, and freezes. He has no idea what to do! Spencer never even tries, he's too scared of EVERYTHING. Kyra actually *almost* got out earlier this week. I freaked! She was halfway out the door and I had my hands full, so I gently (but quickly) closed the door enough that she needed to struggle to push through the rest of the way. And I dropped everything in my hands and grabbed her. All the loud noises and cursing must have convinced her not to try again! She hasn't gone near the door since. ;)

12. We were very, very lucky. Elvis made it obvious
that he is someone's "baby" by his friendly nature and that he let us touch him. I have a feeling that Elvis is going to be our unofficial "godkitty." :loveya:

Friends of mine have a blind cat. It's very interesting to see how she has learned to get around. But she's very easily confused if you pick her up in one room and put her down in another.

I'm amazed that Elvis survived for 5 days before you found him.

16. We're amazed, too,
but we're awfully lenient about leaving cat food out on our patio, since Ginger likes to dine outside in the evenings. Also, Ginger's brother, Barley, lives across the street from us and, although I'm forbidden by my sister-in-law to feed Barley, it's hard for me to resist his big, begging, hungry eyes. x(

I also hope Elvis never escapes again. He was one lucky kitty this time around.

Here's Ginger's ever-hungry brother, Barley:

20. Good for Elvis!
We were so worried that calling the animal "protection" number would mean sending this little guy to his death. Down here in the southern part of Switzerland, "no kill" shelters are an unknown concept. Fortunately, they maintain a detailed list of lost animals and they don't euthanize unless the animal is gravely ill/contagious. :relief:
