Has anyone famous ever called you on the phone as a result of you writing to them?
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 03:25 PM by liberaldemocrat7

Has anyone famous ever called you on the phone as a result of you writing to them?

I will begin this. As a Yankee fan, I watched and listened to the great announcer Mel Allen during the 1950's through the 1980's on radio and television as he broadcasted Yankee games.

Sometime between 1990 and 1994 I wrote 2 letters to Mel Allen on two different occaisions.

He called me twice on 2 different occaisions on the phone. The first time I got a phone call, I got surprised. on both occaisions we talked about his career, the Yankees, and baseball and his colleagues in the business.

Tell me if someone famous has called you.

4. Well, I did, once...
But not as a result of having written them...

I actually tracked down Jonothan Kellerman...

He's a Los Angeles writer who writes murder mysteries that are normally set here in LA...

The Alex Delaware books...

I was able to find his home phone number, and I called him...

He wasn't there, but I spoke to his wife, and I identified myself...

Then he called back when I wasn't home!

But later on we connected, and had the most delightful conversation!

6. BARTCOP
Whether he is famous or not is up to the reader.

It was at least three years ago. I had sent him a check for a few bucks and one evening out of the blue he called and thanked me for the contribution and we had a nice chit chat about evil conservative bastards. It was a nice touch and a fun phone call.

9. The only one I spoke with...
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 05:22 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
because of a letter I wrote was guitarist GE Smith. I was a big fan during his time with Hall & Oates. We had corresponded via mail for some time before he called, then were phone buds for a year or so before we finally got to meet and spend time together.

Ah, memories...

On edit:

Here we are in NYC's Little Italy:

Also forgot Bob. Bob West was the original voice of Barney the Dino. We'd been email buds for years and I finally got a call from him when I asked him to design a website for me. He's a real sweetie -- I've had a major crush on him forever. :loveya: Here we are at the San Antonio premiere of "Still Breathing":

21. Wow, who's the sexy woman in that picture? :)
GE Smith also led the Saturday Night Live Band for a number of years. I believe he also had his own show for awhile on Saturday nights after Saturday night live.

Anyway the woman in that picture looks so sexy. :)

23. That sound you here...
is me falling flat on the floor. :D  In 47 years you are the sole male to ever refer to me as "sexy"!!

Bless you!!!! :loveya:

Yeah, it was the SNL era that I was friends with GE. He was interesting/odd guy with a lot of great stories to tell from his years of traveling around the world with some of the best in the business. Sadly, he was (is?) a Republican because he was all about the wallet, so it was dooomed for us from the start. :D But, it was a great deal of fun for me -- I just wish I'd taken even more advantage of the unique situation I was in.

Thanks for the ego stroke! :hi:

Yes you look sexy.

Well, almost as sexy as my girlfriend :) She, a Canadian, does not believe in the RepubliKLAN party, and like me supports the Democrats, at least the progressive Democrats.

As for GE Smith, he appears to me a libertarian, not a Republican as he wants as many women as he can get and the money too and perhaps to smoke those funny looking cigarettes. The Fundies would not like to associate with him.

I find it ironic that Republicans deride Democrats as a bunch of hippies but during the 60's as I saw the hippies acted more like libertarians or libertines than progressive Democrats. Well some hippies did show compassion for the less fortunate but when they get stoned often, who can tell.

Other than my girlfriend, I have another woman best friend who just loves George W Bush and the Republiklan party. She and I have had a friendship for 28 years now, and we avoid talking about politics as much as we can. I do care about my best friend very much and she has a disability too, but nothing will shake her from loving that Republiklan party. When the Republiklans passed that crappy corporate giveaway and middle class meager benefit Medicare Part D, she would not hear any criticism of her party for foisting it on the public.

Look, people supported Hitler so, to a much lesser degree people support the sociopathic Republiklan party as well. Nothing will change some of these people even the lower middle class ones because for them it involves making sure that Whelllllll fare recipients must get punished and kept in line at every opportunity and the unemployed must get the fear of Ghod so they will get that job in a week after they lost the last one to Republiklan party outsourcing. blah blah blah.

The Republiklan party will change when they collapse into a heap of defeated politicians.

19. I've spoken to a number of "famous" folks on the phone
but not as a result of a letter. "Famous" being relative to what I and folks that are sympathetic to animal issues find to be famous. A good number are infamous, if that helps.

25. Yes
a well known author called me and we became friends - I emailed him after he was on The Daily Show - We are in touch weekly now.

My son, who was not even in kindergarten, emailed Carroll Shelby and he wrote back and then sent a package. My son, had read all about The Mustang - He knew how to Google Carrol Shelby, found his email address and wrote him a fan email! No phone call though.
