Does your dog do a victory lap when he poops?
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 01:24 AM by MonkeyFunk
Mine does.

Goes out the back door, does his nasty dirty business, then comes TEARING into the house. Runs through the house, slaps into the front door, runs back to the kitchen. Does it about three times, then goes to his bed to sleep it off.

It's very odd... he's always done this. Pooping really sets him off.

On walks, when he poops, I have to steel myself because I know 70 lbs of stubborn dog is about to yank me as hard as possible when he's done.

2. Has she been checked for worms?
Not to be a spoiler, but usually that ass-dragging behavior is caused by a parasite. But not always: Goldens are strange.

Not a job for a novice. Or anyone with a weak stomach.

25. No worms or anal gland problems.
She's checked regularly & has her glands expressed every time I take her to be groomed.

5. I wish.. the fucker!
I am near convinced when I let him out and he poops he takes off to see the world. As an akita I think some nights he runs clear to town... He is so huge and energetic he sounds like a horse in gallop...

thanks for the vent.. rabble, rabble, rabble...

:hi:

28. I have an akita too
He doesn't do the victory lap, but he does do that kick/scratch with his hind hooves... er... feet. Actually, he only does the kick/scratch if he drops one when we're out on our walk. If he does doodie in the yard, he just walks away. After doing the kick/scratch when we're out, he seems to get a bit upset with me that I take the doodie away with us (I'm not one of those rude folks that lets my beast drop a giant doodie bomb in their yard and leaves it there). I guess the kick/scratch must mean something... leaving a message for other neighborhood dogs I suppose.

I can't believe I'm talking about my dog's turds.

6. Well, ya know...
There's nothing like a good dump to get your motor runnin'.

My dog used to kick up about a half-acre of sod after he did his business, then sometimes he would run around the yard like a madman (miniature schnauzer).

7. Our cats sure do!
We call it "The Heifer Dance" in honor of the character Heifer Wolf from "Rocko's Modern Life." In one cartoon, Heifer "fertilizes" Rocko's lawn, and through the window, you can see him running, dancing, cartwheeling. The nice thing is, when the cats tear around like that, we know it is time to check one of the litter boxes.

11. Thankfully, No!
He's too big to be tearing around the house. We'd have broken stuff all over the house.

He does a poop walk just before, though. Goes in circles, and each time the circle gets smaller. When he's practically pivoting on his front legs, he does his business.

Then he runs over to me and we go inside.

But, no victory lap. Whew! That's lucky.

13. Ha! Mines does a 'poop walk' too!
He finds the perfect spot to poop, then turns in ever-smaller circles until the moment is right to unleash the storm. When he's done he kicks up sod with an air of finality.

21. I get the poop walk too
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 03:10 PM by PeterU
Or the poop crouch, rather. He'll walk and crouch at the same time, sometimes for a long, long distance until he finds his magical spot.

What really gets me is when he'll go into his pooping crouch, and then decide he doesn't want to poop after all. That little brat--it always seems like he does this whenever he knows I am in a hurry and just need for him to poop fast. It's at those moments I'd definetly rather a cat. (But I still love him anyways.)

29. Ah! The Fake Out Poop!
I thought only my dog did this. I think he knows that after he poops we're going home, so he does the Fake Out Poop just so we can stay out walking around longer.

Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 01:55 PM by Liberalynn
I think I read some where that this is a behavior harkening back to their wolf heritage. If I remember correctly it's something to do with leaving more of their scent behind from the pads of their paws!

17. My cat used to run like hell from the litter box after depositing kitty nuggets.
It was almost as if he was being chased by some nasty cat-poo apparition. I could never see the being myself, but I certainly could sense it's presence. It had a horrible odor, and I imagine that's what they talk about when they speak of Sasquatch. Well, one day the monster got him apparently...

18. Mine circles continiously and manicly
Because he knows poops = treats for him. (It's how we encourage him to stay on schedule and not mess in the house when we are gone.)

There has to way to harness all that energy in that little dog, I swear. Too much energy is going to waste--we could definetly be off of fossil fuels by now.

19. My cat smacked full speed into an open glass door on a stereo cabinet
in his post-poop high-speed gallop.

The glass didn't break, being very thick, but the impact knocked the entire door right out of the cabinet. The cat looked like Wiley Coyote after running into an Acme anvil.

Boingggggggg!!!!!!!

24. I have shih-tzu's
and they both buck like broncos after they take a poop. it's like "look at me! look what I did!" either that or thier trying to bury the poop in the grass clippings that go flying in the air when they buck. My cat runs through the house like a crazy person before she takes a poop. just about knocks you over on her little marathon.
