Please help?

I want to upload my own avatar... but everything is too large. :-(

Do I dare ask my husband, or is there something simple you can tell me to do, Lounge?

1. If it's too big you need to resize the image (and possibly crop it).

There are free graphics programs that you can download to do this if you don't already have something. Try IrfanView, it's one of the easiest to use.

Avatars are 48 pixels by 48 pixels here at DU. They must be either a jpeg or a gif image, and no more than 3 kilobytes. If you still have issues, I'll crop and resize it for you if you want to email me the image. Or if it's already on the web somewhere, just put it your reply and I'll see what I can do.
