Hey, Seahawks fans -- great game, huh?
To say that I'm furious is an understatement.

So -- who's at fault here? My money's on a combo of "they're 0 and 4, we don't even have to try" and Mike Holmgren, for not shopping for another quarterback when one was available.

4. My favorite Seahawk, Julian Peterson, played his ass off
for naught.

I'm just livid. I'm so mad that I'm tuning into talk radio, because I will enjoy listening to Holmgren get roasted over a toasty talk show fire for this.

5. The snap that turned into a touchdown for the Saints at the beginning
of the game was a portent of things to come in the remainder of the game.

Grrrrrrrrr!

6. Talk radio is on FIRE
I know you're a nice person, SeattleGirl, and would never delight in anything like this, ;-) but I'm listening to AM 950 (sports radio) and I'm laughing my ASS off.

The Seahawks are going to be getting a reality check tomorrow morning, I'm betting -- the fans are WILD livid.

8. Bad, bad, BAD
Shawn Alexander has to be wondering why he was getting booed out of his own stadium.

10. Julian Peterson? The guy who had 1 tackle and 1 assist?
He may have played his ass off, but he sure didn't produce much of an impact.

Hasselbeck was pretty bad, but then you look at his final numbers (362 yds, 60% comp, 2 tds) and find it's a little hard to blame this one on him, particularly when he got nothing from the ground game. Again.

Either Alexander is off mentally because of the wrist or he's done being an elite back. In either case, he needs to sit on the bench until healthy.

Bobby Engram was such a warrior today. The loan bright spot.

I agree that Holmgren has been terrible. The reluctance to make changes is aggravating. Holmgren's faith in his intricate offensive philosophy makes him too rigid. I think it's his last year regardless of how they finish.

13. You're MOCKING my JULIAN?
WHAT? (LOL) I still love him. Good job on the forced fumble that turned into a whole bunch of nothin'. I noticed he was fairly busy most of the afternoon with Mr. Bush. They were double and triple teaming him.

I have to agree with you about Bobby Engram. The guy's amazing. It's a good thing he was healthy, or Matt Hasselbeck would have been curled in the middle of Qwest Field in the fetal position, crying like a little girl.

I asked my husband how many teams currently in contention have a coach that's under 40. There seems to be a fairly large number, if I remember correctly.

3. I'm wondering how long it's going to be before we actually get a quarterback
Fenris, did you hear John Madden say that Holmgren mentioned this week Hasselbeck has a problem with "adversity"? I heard that and told Mr. JulieRB, "Trade his ass. NOW. If he's going to fall apart every time things don't go his way, he shouldn't be in the NFL."

I also told Mr. JulieRB in the first minute of the game (after the disastrous long snapping incident,) that we were going to lose.

GRRRR.
Julie

p.s. I hope you and flamingyouth are great, and I also hope we can schedule some kind of get-together soon.

9. Yeah. I liked that. "Adversity."
One would think that a major facet of the quarterback's art is being able to respond to planned plays going badly. I used to think he could do that. Now I'm pretty convinced he can't. They went from one stellar season to barely scraping by last season and this season has just been an embarrassment all around, starting to the pre-season slaughter by Green Bay. I took that game as a omen of things to come. And then came the shut out.

Ack. This season is going to suck.

11. You realize that after tonights game Hasselbeck has a QB rating of over 90?
He's in the top 10 in the NFL.

I'll be the first guy to say he's played some clunkers, but the numbers do not indicate that he is anywhere near the biggest problem with this club.

That would be the line play and the lackluster effort of that sissy, #37.

14. Okay, Mojambo
I'll play.

His rating may be oh so stellar, but he has the clock management skills of a drunken chimp. He doesn't engender confidence in me. If I'd been sitting in Qwest Field after spending in excess of $100 per ticket to see this alleged football game, I would have been LIVID. Hasselbeck has great numbers, right? Where is it translating, especially this year?

I absolutely agree with you about Shawn Alexander. Sit his ass until he's healthy, which will probably never happen. Start looking for someone else in the meantime. IMHO, YMMV, and yeah, he has a big-ass contract we'd have to cash out, too.

The defense? I wish I knew what to say, other than I think they all took the Saints for granted. I think the Saints have an awful schedule this year, and we were the first team they've played that isn't in contention.

This is the first time in my memory I've heard John Madden take a coach apart on live national television.

15. I don't want anyone to think I'm saying Hasselbeck is playing great
He's not.

I just think there are other bigger issues to focus on before we decide that we can't win with Hasselbeck.

The offensive line breakdowns, No running game, No tight ends or running backs available to check down to in the passing game, Very little puss rush from the "rebuilt" front four...

Again, I don't think Hass is playing well, but to watch these losses and then focus any more than partial blame on the QB is unfair, IMO.

I think Holmgren deserves just as much, if not more blame for the clock management than Hasselbeck. He's NEVER been good at that.

12. Seahawks and Panthers have been the most over-rated teams of this decade
mot sure what sports writers see in them, they've basically nver been more than above avg. and holmgren is an avg coach if brett farve isn't his QB.

16. I haven't seen such a flat effort from a supposed contender all year.
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 01:18 PM by Zavulon
Hell, I'm not sure Seattle could have beat the Rams yesterday.

I was the frontrunner by a full game in my office pool until the Seahawks mailed it in. Now I have to win a tiebreaker to get the cash. Thanks, guys.
